Live birth after in-vitro maturation of oocytes in a patient with specific ovarian insufficiency caused by long-term mitotane treatment for adrenocortical carcinoma.

Research Question: How should the fertility of a woman with persistent specific ovarian dysfunction after long-term mitotane exposure be managed?

Design: Case report. A 33-year-old woman who underwent surgery for adrenocortical carcinoma and treated with mitotane was referred for infertility. She rapidly became amenorrhoeic while taking mitotane, a condition that persisted for 5 years after cessation.

Pubertal growth spurt in patients with bilateral anorchia after testosterone replacement therapy.

Anorchia, the absence of testes in 46,XY boys, is a very rare condition. It has been suggested that the testicular tissue disappears during pregnancy, as a result of a vascular accident associated with torsion or a genetic cause. Because pubertal growth spurt is directly influenced by androgen exposure, we decided to evaluate the pubertal height gain in nine patients with anorchia who were followed up at the pediatric endocrinology unit of Bicêtre University Hospital.

Ultrasound-Induced Blood-Spinal Cord Barrier Opening in Rabbits.

The blood-spinal cord barrier (BSCB) considerably limits the delivery and efficacy of treatments for spinal cord diseases. The blood-brain barrier can be safely opened with low-intensity pulsed ultrasound when microbubbles are simultaneously administered intravenously. This technique was tested on the BSCB in a rabbit model in this work.

Intrafollicular concentrations of steroids and steroidogenic enzymes in relation to follicular development in the mare.

The objective of the present study was to determine the changes in follicular fluid steroid concentrations and in granulosa cell steroidogenic enzyme expression during the follicular phase, in relation to follicular size and physiological status in the mare. Follicular fluid and follicular cells were recovered by ultrasound-guided follicular punctures either around the time of emergence of the dominant follicle, at the end of the dominant follicle growth, or at the preovulatory stage, after injection of gonadotropin to induce ovulation. Cellular relative amounts of steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR), P450-side chain cleavage (P450(scc)), 3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3betaHSD), 17alpha-hydroxylase, and aromatase were assessed by semiquantitative Western blot and densitometry.
