Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how Cornus Mas (CM) extract affects testicular damage in rats caused by nicotine exposure, highlighting the role of oxidative stress in disease development.
  • Thirty Wistar albino rats were split into four groups for 35 days, with one group receiving both nicotine and CM extract, showing improved testicular health and reduced oxidative stress markers.
  • Findings indicate that nicotine damages testicular cells and disrupts spermatogenesis, while CM extract helps protect against these harmful effects, pointing to potential therapeutic options for oxidative stress-related conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of testicular tissue resection (TTR) on testicular compartment syndrome (TCS) in rats, aiming to improve blood flow and reduce pressure within the testis.
  • Out of 24 adult rats, those that underwent TTR after detorsion showed significantly less damage compared to those that only had detorsion, indicating that resecting tissue can be beneficial for tissue recovery.
  • Results suggest that TTR might be a useful treatment option in TCS cases where other surgical remedies are not viable or in delayed presentations, as it helps lower tissue injury compared to detorsion alone.

Parkin is a member of the mitochondrial quality control system that plays a major role in mitophagy. Although the loss of function mutations in the Parkin gene has been associated with the Familial Parkinson's phenotype, research in recent years points out that Parkin's function is not limited to neurodegenerative diseases. Parkin's function impressing key cellular quality control mechanisms, including the ubiquitin-proteasome and autophagy-lysosome systems, makes it an important player in the maintenance of cellular homeostasis.

Objectives: Dyslipidemia is a risk factor for post- transplant diabetes mellitus, especially in patients who are taking tacrolimus. Although lipotoxicity of dyslipidemia leads to β-cell failure, the handling of lipids by β cells is a mystery in molecular endocrinology. Likewise, lipid droplet homeostasis is appreciated as a key component of lipid metabolism in cells like hepatocytes, but its role in β cells remains to be elucidated.

Objectives: Lipotoxicity and glucolipotoxicity are among the mostimportanttriggers of beta-cell failure in patients with type 2 and posttransplant diabetes. Because the Golgi apparatus is a vital organelle in secretory cells like beta cells, its behavior under stress conditions determines the cell's functional capacity.

Materials And Methods: To mimic lipotoxicity and glucolipotoxicity as metabolic stresses for beta-cell failure, rat insulinoma INS-1E cells were treated with palmitic acid, glucose, or both.
