Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the relationship between low birthweight and adverse neonatal outcomes in very preterm infants born between 24 to 31 weeks gestation in Pavia, Italy.
  • - Analyzed data from 230 singleton infants showed that lower birthweight standard deviation scores (SDS) are linked to a higher risk of neonatal death and other severe complications such as intraventricular hemorrhage and respiratory distress syndrome.
  • - While low birthweight increases the risk of these negative outcomes, the study concludes that gestational age has a more significant impact on neonatal outcomes than birthweight does.
