Dose rationale for the use of meropenem/vaborbactam combination in paediatric patients with Gram-negative bacterial infections.

Aims: Meropenem/vaborbactam combination is approved in adults by FDA and EMA for complicated urinary tract infections and by EMA also for other Gram-negative infections. We aimed to characterise the pharmacokinetics of both moieties in an ongoing study in children and use a model-based approach to inform adequate dosing regimens in paediatric patients.

Methods: Over 4196 blood samples of meropenem and vaborbactam (n = 414 subjects) in adults, together with 114 blood samples (n = 39) in paediatric patients aged 3 months to 18 years were available for this analysis.

Significance Statement: Shiga toxin-related hemolytic uremic syndrome (STEC-HUS) is a serious condition, characterized by multiorgan thrombotic microangiopathy, mainly affecting children. Renal involvement is severe, with approximately half of patients requiring dialysis. So far, no specific treatment has been proven efficient in STEC-HUS.

Background: COVID-19 triggered an unprecedented crisis affecting society at every level. Research in pediatric and congenital cardiology is currently in full development and may have been disrupted. The aim of the study was to determine the impact of COVID-19 on pediatric and congenital cardiology clinical research and to analyze decision-making and adaptation processes, from a panel of ongoing academic and industry-sponsored research at the time of the pandemic.

Solar UV radiation causes beneficial and detrimental changes in human health. International and national Health agencies recommend avoiding sun exposure when the solar rays are strongest (typically 2 h before and after solar noon). In this study we detail and refine such recommendations.

: In 2015 nearly 140 million children and adolescents under 18 had experienced the death of one or both parents. Parental death is often considered the most traumatic event that a child can experience in their lifetime. While parental loss may lead to the development of prolonged grief disorder (PGD), little is known about risk factors for such negative mental health outcome in children.
