Chemistry of Street Art: Neural Network for the Spectral Analysis of Berlin Wall Colors.

This research starts with the analysis of some fragments of the Berlin Wall street art for the characterization of the painting materials. The spectroscopic results provide a general description of the paint executive technique but more importantly open the way to a new advantage of Raman application to the analytic analysis of acrylic colors. The study highlights the correlation between peak intensity and compound percentage and explores the powerful application of deep learning for the quantification of a pigment mixture in the acrylic commercial products from Raman spectra acquired with hand-held equipment (BRAVO by Bruker).

Composite Nanostructures for the Production of White Light.

In this work, two different composite nanostructures, YAG:Ce and GaInN, were prepared by the Urea Glass Route method and tested for the production of white light. The first composite was prepared by synthetizing the GaInN nanoparticles in the presence of YAG:Ce nanoparticles. The second one was prepared by synthetizing YAG:Ce nanoparticles in the presence of GaInN nanoparticles.

Unraveling the thread: understanding and addressing sequential failures in human-robot interaction.

Interaction is a dynamic process that evolves in real time. Participants interpret and orient themselves towards turns of speech based on expectations of relevance and social/conversational norms (that have been extensively studied in the field of Conversation analysis). A true challenge to Human Robot Interaction (HRI) is to develop a system capable of understanding and adapting to the changing context, where the meaning of a turn is construed based on the turns that have come before.

New Insight on Archaeological Metal Finds, Nails and Lead Sheathings of the Punic Ship from Battle of the Egadi Islands.

The wreck of the Punic ship exhibited at the Archaeological Park of Lilybaeum (Marsala, Italy) is a unique example in the world. In this paper, the investigation of some metal finds (30 nails and 3 fragments of sheathings) belonging to the wreck of the Punic ship is reported. Portable X-ray fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy allowed us to identify the elements and compounds constituting them and make some deductions about their composition.

Improved chemometric approach for XRF data treatment: application to the reverse glass paintings from the Lipari collection.

The Aeolian cultural heritage preserves hundreds of testimonies of the past that have passed through six millennia of history. Among these, the Archeological Park of the Aeolian Islands with the Museum Luigi Bernabò Brea (Italy) preserves a valuable set of artworks, which are related to a little-known 'popular' figurative heritage. It is an assemblage of small glass foils decorated using the technique of reverse painting, datable to between the end of the 17 century and the end of the 18 century, and actually under investigation by historians.
