Starting a surgical prehabilitation program: results from a pragmatic nonrandomized feasibility study.

Purpose: We sought to assess the feasibility and estimate the effects on outcomes of a multimodal prehabilitation service implemented as an ancillary surgical service.

Methods: We conducted a pragmatic, nonrandomized feasibility study of surgical prehabilitation. Patients were eligible if they were ≥ 18 yr of age, fluent in English, and referred by a health professional for prehabilitation.

Aim: To summarize the existing literature surrounding the influence of natural elements on course in hospital and to introduce clinicians to the concept of biophilic design and the potential for incorporation of nature into the hospital environment as a component of a therapeutic hospitalization.

Background: For decades, architects and designers have espoused the benefits of incorporating natural elements into the healthcare environment for therapeutic purposes. The benefits of this "biophilic" design philosophy has been investigated predominantly in long-term care or rehabilitation settings; however, some of the most appealing opportunities lie in the acute care setting.

The use of clear aligners in orthognathic surgeries: a case series.

Pre- and postoperative fixed orthodontic appliances are the customary and standard practice for patients with treatment planned for undergoing orthognathic surgery. Traditionally, most patients undergoing orthognathic surgeries are in their late teens. Although these patients still compose the greatest pool of the orthognathic surgery population, many patients seek orthognathic surgery later in life.
