The impact of the tumor immune microenvironment and tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte subgroups on laryngeal cancer prognosis.

The absence of improvement in survival rates across various cancers, including laryngeal cancer, has led to an increasing interest in understanding the immune response to cancer. In head and neck cancers, immune modulatory mechanisms such as immune microenvironment and immune infiltration are important in cancer pathogenesis. This study aims to explore the distribution of tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) subgroups in the immune microenvironment and evaluate their impact on tumor histopathological characteristics and prognosis.

Perivascular epitheloid cell tumors (PEComas) are a family of neoplasms with distinctive perivascular epitheloid cells. 36 year old female patient admitted to our clinic with a mass on neck. Biopsy was reported as PEComa.

The Role of Preemptive Infiltration Anesthesia in the Management of Postoperative Pain Following Septoplasty.

 Septoplasty is one of the most common surgical procedures in rhinology practice. Two major problems encountered after septoplasty are pain and bleeding. Preoperative administration of analgesics before the surgical stimulus, which is the main concept of preemptive analgesia, decreases postoperative pain.

Long-term efficacy of tonsillectomy/adenotonsillectomy in patients with periodic fever aphthous stomatitis pharyngitis adenitis syndrome with special emphasis on co-existence of familial Mediterranean fever.

Periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, adenitis (PFAPA) syndrome is one of the most common autoinflammatory fever disorders in the childhood which may co-exists with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) causing treatment complexity. As the role of surgery in PFAPA syndrome is still controversial, in this paper, our aim is to present our results of tonsillectomy/adenotonsillectomy in the treatment of PFAPA syndrome. Archives of a tertiary care hospital were investigated for patients who underwent tonsillectomy or adenotonsillectomy due to PFAPA Syndrome between 2010 and 2020.

Delayed presentation of head and neck cancer patients during COVID-19 pandemic.

Purpose: Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare is huge. We intended to demonstrate how COVID-19 pandemic affected primary head and neck oncology patient's referral and admission to a tertiary center by comparing the retrospective patient data in March-September 2020 and the same period in 2019.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, from March 15th, 2020 to September 15th, 2020, medical records of 61 patients (Group 1) diagnosed and scheduled for surgery for head and neck cancer in our tertiary care center were revised and compared with 64 head and neck cancer patients treated in the same institution in the same time period of the previous year (Group2).

Evaluation of Olfactory Function With Objective Tests in COVID-19-Positive Patients: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Objective: Olfactory dysfunction is relatively high in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. The aim of this study is to investigate the incidence of olfactory disorder objectively in patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 infection.

Material And Method: The study included 31 healthy controls and 59 COVID-19 patients who were diagnosed and treated in the COVID departments in a tertiary hospital.

Is Preoperative Embolization Necessary for Carotid Paraganglioma Resection: Experience of a Tertiary Center.

Purpose: This study was designed to investigate whether preoperative embolization is a useful procedure to decrease blood loss and neurovascular complications for carotid body tumor (CBT) surgery or not.

Methods: Medical records of our tertiary care center from 2012 to 2019 were scanned for patients who underwent surgery for CBT, retrospectively. Age, gender, complaint and head and neck examination findings at the time of presentation, preoperative complete blood count parameters, imaging records (cervical magnetic resonance imaging and carotid artery angiography), Shamblin classification, tumor size, intraoperative findings, and postoperative complications were noted.

Extra-Cochlear Insertion in Cochlear Implantation: A Potentially Disastrous Condition.

Objectives: Cochlear implantation is an increasingly used technique for auditory rehabilitation of pediatric and adult population. Safe implantation is achieved in most cases; however, intraoperative complications and misplacement of the electrode are observed in some. The aim of this presentation was to review the characteristics of patients with extra-cochlear electrode insertion, postoperative diagnostic methods, and considerations in revision surgery.
