Article Synopsis
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease affecting various organs, and the study looks into the effectiveness and safety of intravenous immunoglobulin (IG) as a treatment option.
  • The research analyzed data from 31 patients with SLE treated with intravenous IG, mainly for hematological issues like thrombocytopenia, and noted significant improvements in clinical and laboratory measures post-treatment.
  • Though intravenous IG is expensive, it appears to be effective for patients with refractory SLE, particularly those with specific clinical features that may predict response to the therapy.

The aim of the study is to evaluate whether C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR), lactate dehydrogenase to albumin ratio (LAR), ferritin to erythrocyte sedimentation rate ratio (FER), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), prognostic nutritional index (PNI) indices and ferritin level can predict organ involvement in adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) patients. This study was planned as a cross-sectional study. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the usefulness of ferritin level and inflammatory indices in defining organ involvement.

Aim: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection may have a more severe course in patients with underlying disease or who have had immunosuppression. In this study, it was aimed to determine the frequency of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the mortality rates related to COVID-19 among patients with rheumatic disease.

Methods: The patients who were followed up with rheumatic disease in the rheumatology outpatient clinic in a tertiary hospital were retrospectively assessed if they had COVID-19 infection or not between March 2020 and January 2022.

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a neurotoxic state which is characterized by seizures, headache, visual disturbances, paresis, and altered mental status. Golimumab is anti-tumor necrosis factor-α inhibitor (anti-TNF-α) that can be used in the treatment of rheumatologic diseases. Here, we present a patient who had developed PRES after golimumab treatment for ankylosing spondylitis (AS).
