View Article and Find Full Text PDFTransthyretin (ATTR) amyloidosis constitutes a spectrum of debilitating neurodegenerative diseases instigated by systemic extracellular deposition of partially unfolded/aggregated aberrant transthyretin. The homotetrameric protein, TTR, is abundant in the plasma, and to a lesser extent the cerebrospinal fluid. Rate-limiting tetramer dissociation of the native protein is regarded as the critical step in the formation of morphologically heterogenous toxic aggregates and the onset of clinical manifestations such as polyneuropathy, cardiomyopathy, disturbances in motor and autonomic functions.

Extensive morphological, microstructural, physical and mechanical analysis revealed that the nanofillers were well-dispersed and integrated into CMP matrix. Incorporation of the extract and nano selenium produced excellent UV blocking properties without seriously compromising the transparency of the composite (CMP/CNW/CLNS1) film.

Additionally, the biocompatibility of methoxyflavone-glycol solutions was evaluated using Caco-2 cells whereas the absorptive transport was investigated by measuring the apparent permeability coefficient ( ) of the methoxyflavones and transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) of the Caco-2 cell monolayer. Data from differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) spectroscopic analysis revealed physico-chemical compatibility between the three methoxyflavones and PEG400/propylene glycol.

The novelty of this method hinges on the utilization of thionyl chloride as a latent chloride source in combination with as little as 1 mol % of triphenylphosphine or triphenylphosphine oxide as Lewis basic activators. This metal-free, catalytic chemo-, regio-, and diastereoselective bromochlorination of alkenes and alkynes exhibits excellent site selectivity in polyunsaturated systems and provides access to a wide variety of vicinal bromochlorides with up to >20:1 regio- and diastereoselectivity.

Therefore, this study investigated the impact of fipronil on several hematological and biochemical parameters of blue land crabs. We exposed blue land crabs to either fipronil or to a control treatment; fipronil reduced the protein content of the crab and also led to hematological and oxidative damages to the crabs' oxy-hemocyanin.
