Penile scintigraphy with 99mTc-human immunoglobulin G: a novel method for distinguishing the unstable and stable phases of Peyronie's disease.

Objective: To investigate the value of penile scintigraphy using 99mTc-human immunoglobulin G (IgG) to differentiate the unstable (acute) and stable (chronic) phases of Peyronie's disease (PD).

Patients And Methods: Thirty-two consecutive patients (25 with PD and seven without) were evaluated using a detailed sexual history, serum chemistry panel, colour Doppler ultrasonography during simultaneous intracavernosal injection of 50 mg papaverine and stimulation, and 99mTc-IgG scanning. When indicated, nocturnal penile tumescence monitoring, dynamic infusion cavernosometry, cavernosonography and cavernosal artery systolic occlusion pressure were measured.

Primary repair and intraocular lens implantation after perforating eye injury.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcome after primary treatment of lens injuries with corneal or corneoscleral trauma.

Methods: Ten eyes of 10 patients were retrospectively evaluated. There were no foreign bodies in any eye.

The authors describe a new case of the split notochord syndrome (SNS) with dorsal enteric fistula in an eight-month-old-boy. The child had also central nervous system anomalies including dysgenetic corpus callosum, absence of septum pellucidum, triventricular hydrocephalus, small posterior fossa, and lipomyelomeningocele, gastrointestinal system anomalies such as malrotation, wandering spleen, and right inguinal hernia. The clinical features, embryogenesis, and literature were reviewed briefly.

Oculocardiac reflex in a nonsedated laser in situ keratomileusis patient.

A healthy 21-year-old man had laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) in the right eye for a refractive error of -7.0 diopters. The electrocardiogram findings and heart rate were recorded before LASIK; during eye lid speculum insertion, vacuum application, corneal flap preparation, and excimer laser keratectomy; and after the procedure.

Effect of experimental varicocele in rats on testicular oxidative stress status.

The present experiments were undertaken to determine the levels of MDA, SOD and catalase in the testis of adolescent rats with experimental left varicoceles. Material And Methods: A total of 39 patients were enrolled to the present study. According to preoperative medical treatment, patients were divided into 2 groups as preoperative untreated (n = 15) and medically treated patients with alpha-1ARA (n = 24).

The effects of pressure and direct compression on tabletting of microsponges.

Microsponges are porous, polymeric microspheres that are used mostly for topical and recently for oral administration. Ketoprofen was used as a model drug for systemic drug delivery of microsponges in the study. Ketoprofen microsponges were prepared by quasi-emulsion solvent diffusion method with Eudragit RS 100 and afterwards tablets of microsponges were prepared by direct compression method.

Benign neonatal hemangiomatosis with conjunctival involvement. Report of a case and review of the literature.

Hemangiomas are the most common tumours of infancy. When limited to the skin, multiple lesions have a benign course and excellent prognosis but in cases of visceral involvement, the morbidity and mortality rates are high. We report a rare case of a female infant with benign neonatal hemangiomatosis who had dramatic conjunctival involvement.

Determination of degradation of radioactivity and its kinetics in aerobic composting.

In this study, the kinetics of disappearance of radioactivity in aerobic composting was investigated. For this purpose, compost materials were prepared by mixing sugar beet wastes, wine factory wastes (grape wastes), straw and biological treatment sludge in different amounts. While alpha-radioactivity was not initially detected in all composting materials, the composting materials had some beta-radioactivity.

In addition, the contribution of peritoneal dialysis (PD) fluids to the elevation of penile tissue 5-HMF levels and iNOS staining scores has been investigated.

Methods: Adult male Wistar rats, aged between 10 and 12 weeks and weighing 200 to 330 g, were divided into five groups that each included 6 animals.

It has been suggested that multiple growth factors are crucial for spermatogenesis. We analyzed whether alterations on epidermal growth factor receptor activity and different expression pattern of extracellular matrix proteins had an impact on the fertilization capacity of spermatozoa and pregnancy rate after testicular sperm extraction and intracytoplasmic injection. Extracellular matrix proteins and epidermal growth factor receptor were immunohistochemically evaluated in testis of 88 patients with nonobstructive azoospermia.

Relationship between apoptosis regulator proteins (bcl-2 and p53) and Gleason score in prostate cancer.

Cellular proliferation programmed cell death (apoptosis) are associated with tumor growth in general, and prostate cancer growth in particular. The aim of this study was to examine the expression of the apoptosis regulating genes bcl-2 and p53 and Gleason score in core needle biopsy specimens of prostate cancer using immunohistochemistry. We studied bcl-2 and p53 expression in 12 cases of low grade (Gleason score 2-5), 12 cases of intermediate grade (Gleason score 6-7) and 8 cases of high grade (Gleason score 8-10) prostate cancer.

Studies on indomethacin inserts prepared by water-soluble polymers. II. The relation between dissolution rate and swelling behaviour.

Inserts containing indomethacin were prepared using water-soluble polymers such as hydroxypropyl cellulose, methylcellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and polyvinyl alcohol by the film casting method. According to the different characteristics of the polymer used, these inserts exhibit different release kinetics and swelling behaviour. In this study, we examined the relation between swelling behaviour of the polymer and the release of the indomethacin from inserts.

Are normal hemodynamic responses invariably associated with normal penile rigidity and potency?

The existence and importance of patients with low penile buckling pressure and normal penile hemodynamic status have been recently recognized. We assessed the ratio of inadequate erection for vaginal penetration (low buckling pressure) in patients with normal penile vascular system proved with penile Doppler ultrasonography. A total of 101 patients with normal penile vascular status were retrospectively scrutinized dependent on penile axial rigidity (buckling pressure).

Chemically induced intestinal de-epithelialization using silver nitrate for bladder augmentation.

The use of bowel segments for bladder augmentation has been associated with metabolic complications, infections, stones, and cancer at the vesicoenteric anastomosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the consolidation and compressibility properties and also the dilution potentials of some novel directly compressible filler-binders. For this purpose, Ludipress and Cellastose 80 (one-body compounds), Tablettose 70 and Tablettose 80 (alpha-mono agglomerated lactose) were selected. They were diluted at predetermined percentages with Spherolac 100 which is a coarse sieved hydrous crystalline lactose.

Comparison of in vitro dissolution profiles by ANOVA-based, model-dependent and -independent methods.

In this study, the aim was to apply different comparison methods to dissolution profiles of immediate release commercial film-coated tablets of naproxen sodium in order to (1) evaluate each method in terms of easy application and usefulness and (2) identify the advantages and disadvantages of each method. Dissolution testing was conducted using the USP monograph of naproxen sodium. The applied methods for the comparison of in vitro dissolution profiles are ANOVA-based methods, model-dependent methods, and model-independent methods including difference factor, f(1), and similarity factor, f(2).

Modelling of the solvent evaporation method for the preparation of controlled release acrylic microspheres using neural networks.
