This study aims to develop a stable and efficient magnetic nanocomposite hydrogel (MNCH) for selective removal of methylene blue (MB) and crystal violet (CV). MNCHs with different FeO contents (0-9 wt%) were synthesized following graft co-polymerization method using sodium alginate, acrylamide, itaconic acid, ammonium persulfate and N,N-methylene bisacrylamide. Among them, MNCH, with 5 wt% FeO, showed highest removal efficiency (>95 %).

Background: AngioJet rheolytic thrombectomy (ART) system has been widely used as a catheter-directed treatment (CDT) method in acute pulmonary embolism (PE), however, there has been a controversy regarding the safety of its use. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we evaluated the efficacy and safety outcomes of ART in patients with PE.

Methods: Our meta-analysis have been based on search in the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library for studies published up to August 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • As of December 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic not only affected respiratory and circulatory health but also led to an increase in neuropsychiatric disorders like anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances among infected individuals.
  • The study involved 283 participants, comparing 144 patients confirmed with COVID-19 and a control group, using questionnaires to measure anxiety and depression levels.
  • Results showed that COVID-19 patients had significantly higher anxiety and depression scores, with hospitalized patients reporting worse sleep quality compared to those without the virus.

Background: Self-affirmations help one focus on positive outcomes and adapt to new situations both psychologically and physiologically by the repetition of positive affirmation sentences. This method, which has promising results in symptom management, is predicted to have effective results in the management of pain and discomfort in patients undergoing open-heart surgery.

Aim: To investigate the effect of self-affirmation on anxiety and perceived discomfort in patients who have undergone open-heart surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • This study introduces a new index that includes right ventricle function to better evaluate patients with acute pulmonary embolism, addressing limitations of existing models.
  • The research analyzed data from 502 patients who underwent specific imaging techniques during emergency room admission and found that the new index correlated with long-term mortality, despite being less effective for predicting immediate in-hospital mortality.
  • Results suggest that higher index values reflect more severe clinical conditions and long-term mortality risk, indicating the potential usefulness of this index for patient management.

Background: Periostin is an emerging biomarker that plays a role in bone metabolism and may be associated with bone mineral density (BMD). This study is aimed to investigate serum periostin levels in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and its correlation with BMD in these patients.

Methods: Forty patients with newly diagnosed PHPT without co-morbidities and 30 healthy controls were included.

Background: Although an adopted echocardiography algorithm based on tricuspid regurgitation jet peak velocity and suggestive findings for pulmonary hypertension has been utilized in the non-invasive prediction of pulmonary hypertension probability, the reliability of this approach for the updated hemodynamic definition of pulmonary hypertension remains to be determined. In this study, for the first time, we aimed to evaluate the tricuspid regurgitation jet peak velocity and suggestive findings in predicting the probability of pulmonary hypertension as defined by mean pulmonary arterial pressure > 20 mm Hg and > 25 mm Hg, respectively.

Methods: Our study group was comprised of the retrospectively evaluated 1300 patients (age 53.

Background: Pulmonary embolism severity index, its simplified version, and shock index have been used for risk stratification in acute pulmonary embolism. In this study, we proposed a modification in severity index and evaluated the correlates and prognostic value of modification in severity index in this setting.

Methods: The study group comprised retrospectively evaluated 181 patients with acute pulmonary embolism.

Objectives: To develop and validate an Arabic version of the pediatric lower urinary tract symptom score (PLUTSS).

Methods: The linguistic translation of the PLUTSS into Arabic was carried out by following the guidelines that have been set out for cross-cultural adaptation of health-related QoL measures (Translation, Reconciliation, Retranslation, Review of retranslation, Debriefing and final review). The questionnaires were applied to 80 patients, 40 patients seeking urology clinic for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and 40 patients visiting a pediatric clinic without urological compliant.

NOD-, LRR-, and pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) is a cytosolic innate immune sensor of cellular stress signals, triggered by infection and sterile inflammation. Upon detection of an activating stimulus, NLRP3 transitions from an inactive homo-oligomeric multimer into an active multimeric inflammasome, which promotes the helical oligomeric assembly of the adaptor molecule ASC. ASC oligomers provide a platform for caspase-1 activation, leading to the proteolytic cleavage and activation of proinflammatory cytokines in the IL-1 family and gasdermin D, which can induce a lytic form of cell death.

Background: The role of eosinophils in thrombotic processes is well known, and the prognostic value of eosinophil to monocyte ratio had been determined in patients with ST elevated myocardial infarction and acute ischemic stroke in recent studies. We aimed to evaluate the impact of the eosinophil-to-monocyte ratio on short- and long-term allcause mortality in patients with pulmonary embolism, which is another clinical condition closely related to the thrombotic pathway.

Methods: In this study, a total of 212 retrospectively evaluated patients with intermediate-high risk and high-risk pulmonary embolism who underwent catheter-directed therapies with ultrasound-assisted thrombolysis or rheolytic thrombectomy (Angiojet©) and intravenous thrombolytic treatment were included.
