The comorbidity of autism spectrum disorders and severe gastrointestinal symptoms is well-established, yet the molecular underpinnings remain unknown. The identification of high-confidence large-effect autism risk genes offers the opportunity to identify convergent, underlying biology by studying these genes in the context of the gastrointestinal system. Here we show that the expression of these genes is enriched in human prenatal gut neurons as well as their migratory progenitors, suggesting that the development and/or function of these neurons may be disrupted by autism-associated pathogenic variants, leading to gastrointestinal dysfunction.

Method/design: This longitudinal observational study examined dyadic data in 17 couples (patient and partner) after stroke. Patients and partners completed self-report measures on event centrality of the stroke (appraisal) at 2 months (₁), common dyadic coping (CDC) at 5 months (₂), and quality of life (adjustment) at 8 months (₃) after the stroke.

Brain edema formation is a key factor for secondary tissue damage after traumatic brain injury (TBI), however, the type of brain edema and the temporal profile of edema formation are still unclear. We performed free water imaging, a bi-tensor model based diffusion MRI analysis, to characterize vasogenic brain edema (VBE) and cytotoxic edema (CBE) formation up to 7 days after experimental TBI. Metacognitive therapy (MCT) has been shown to be a promising treatment approach for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The changeability of metacognitions by (metacognitive) treatment and its relevance to treatment outcome is, however, still unclear. The FET family of atypical RNA-binding proteins includes Fused in sarcoma (FUS), Ewing's sarcoma (EWS) and the TATA-binding protein-associate factor 15 (TAF15). FET proteins are highly conserved, suggesting specialized requirements for each protein.
