Background: Nowadays, the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) techniques are tested for metabolomic urine profile in order to detect early damage of kidney.
Objectives: The purpose of this investigation was the initial assessment of two-dimensional J-resolved NMR urine spectra analysis usability for early kidney injuries detection. The amino acids (AA) and acids profile change after the exposure to nephrotoxic agent (the cisplatin infusion) was examined.
Introduction: Cancer-related carbohydrate epitopes, which are regarded as potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers, are carried on the main acute phase proteins. It is not clear, however, if the glycosylation profile is similar in different glycoproteins, or it is protein specific to some extent. The aim of the study was to compare fucosylation, α2,3 sialylation and expression of sialyl-Lewisx epitopes (sLe(x)) in the serum as a whole, AGP and haptoglobin of small cell (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with respect to healthy subjects as well as the cancer stage and its histological type.

Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic granulomatous disorder of unknown etiology, which is characterized by a variable clinical presentation and course. The diagnosis of this disease is usually supported by the three elements: compatible clinical and radiologic findings, tissue biopsy specimen that reveals noncaseating epithelioid granulomas and the absence of known granulomagenic agent. During the last years the new diagnostic methods have been discovered, but serum markers of the sarcoidosis are still under studying.

To the best of our knowledge, no study on this association has been performed in a Caucasian population for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In the present work, we investigated the polymorphisms CTLA-4c.

Methodology/principal Findings: In our studies on KIR2DS5 gene associations with human diseases, we compared the frequencies of this gene in patients and relevant controls.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Patients with COPD are at increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis and lung cancer. Although some of the associations between COPD and atherosclerosis may be the result of common risk factors such as smoking, epidemiological evidence suggest that impaired lung function is a risk factor for increased cardiovascular death, independent of tobacco use.

COPD-related mortality is probably underestimated because of difficulties associated with identifying the precise cause of death. Respiratory failure is considered the major cause of death in advanced COPD.

At the time of diagnosis of lung cancer CACS is not yet very important problem, but the weight loss increases with progression of the cancer.

In development of this syndrome play a role: metabolism of glucose, tumor necrosis factor (TNF), interleukin 1, interleukin 6, interferon a, interferon y, the oncological treatment and many other factors. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is the most important proangiogenic factor.

The aim of the study was the analysis of lymphocytes activation markers in a bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in sarcoidosis and the influence of the disease outcome on the changes of cells subpopulations.
Material And Methods: We performed the study on 12 patients with the regression of sarcoidosis after the mean period of the observation 8.
Increased expression of sialyl Lewis X or A antigens on metastatic cancer cells leads to their selectin-mediated extravasation. Profound fucosylation of the serum microenvironment may be a factor that interrupts adhesion and influences the formation of metastases. In this study we quantitatively analyzed fucosylation of serum glycoproteins in small-cell and non-small-cell lung cancer patients.

The participation of histamine in regulation of an immunological response in the course of neoplastic disease is determined by the expression of particular receptor. The aim of our work was the investigation of the expression of mRNA of two types of histamine receptors in peripheral blood lymphocytes and the evaluation of skin-prick test with histamine in lung cancer patients before and after surgery.

Cathepsin B activity was determined by a fluorometric assay. E-alpha 1IP concentration was measured with an ELISA kit.

Elastase and alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor complex (E-alpha 1IP) concentrations and percentage of neutrophils in broncho-alveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were measured in all groups of patients. There were no significant differences in E-alpha 1IP levels in patients with various activity of sarcoidosis.

Insufficiency of that main organ responsible for drugs excretion, caused either by neoplastic disease or by chemotherapy, can diminish the possibility or even make impossible of carrying out a complete treatment cycle. The aim of our work was to evaluate the kidney function in patients with lung cancer during anticancer chemotherapy containing cisplatin.
