Article Synopsis
  • Spinal subdural abscesses (SSAs) are unusual conditions characterized by pus-filled cavities found inside the dura mater but outside the spinal cord, often linked to infections in about 50% of cases.
  • A case study highlights a female patient who came to a neurosurgical center for treatment of a suspected tumor in her lower back, presenting symptoms like severe pain, muscle spasms, and bowel issues.
  • During surgery, doctors found a subdural abscess instead of a tumor, treated it with antibiotics, and the patient made a full recovery in 29 days, showcasing how SSAs can be mistaken for tumors on imaging tests.
