Seaweeds are natural sources of sulfated polysaccharides (SPs), biopolymers with remarkable pharmacological properties, including biological actions capable of attenuating components of the inflammatory process such as edema, cytokines, cell migration and pain. Our results confirm that SPs obtained from Gracilaria domingensis (SP-GD) are agarans, primarily composed of residues of β-d-galactopyranose 6-sulfate and 3,6-anhydro-α-l-galactopyranose. Specifically, SP-GD at a dose of 10 mg/kg was effective in significantly reducing paw edema induced by carrageenan or histamine, serotonin, bradykinin, 48/80 and prostaglandin E2.

A new virus belonging to the Coronaviridae family, called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Within a few days, COVID-19 became a pandemic disease.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether a diet with food restriction can decrease oral and liver alterations associated with ligature-induced periodontitis.
Methods: Twenty-four female Wistar rats were used in this study, randomized into three groups (n = 8 for each group): control (regular food); periodontitis (regular food + periodontitis induced with ligatures); and food restriction (diet with food restriction and periodontitis induction).
Objective: To evaluate the participation of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase pathway in the liver damage caused by nimesulide.
Methods: Liver damage been induced by nimesulide. Mice were treated with either 2% dimethyl sulfoxide or AS605240, a phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase gamma pathway antagonist.
Background And Objective: Periodontitis may crosstalk with renal diseases, yet that remains unclear. We investigated whether the renal alterations caused by induced periodontitis are reversible after removal of the ligatures in experimental ligature-induced periodontitis.
Material And Methods: Twenty-four female rats were divided into three groups: control (without periodontitis), periodontitis (20 days of ligature-induced periodontitis), and P20-20 (20 days of ligature-induced periodontitis and 20 days after ligature removal).
Periodontitis is a high prevalent disease into the clinical dentistry. Genetic variations in interleukins (IL) genes were associated with chronic periodontitis (CP) and were focus of several meta-analyses. This study aimed to assess the noteworthiness in the meta-analyses by means of a Bayesian approach to determinate possible false report associations.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of glutamine supplementation or exercise on gastric emptying and intestinal inflammation in rats with ulcerative colitis (UC). Strength exercise consisted of jump training 4 × 10 repetitions/5 days a week/8 weeks with progressive overload. Endurance exercise consisted of swimming without overload for a period of 1 h a day/5 days a week/8 weeks.

Material And Methods: Forty female rats were distributed among the following groups: control (vehicle solution), periodontitis (ligature + vehicle solution), 5 mg/kg of αTPN-βCD (ligature), and 25 mg/kg of αTPN-βCD (ligature). Compounds were administered daily via intraperitoneal injection over a 20-day period.
Objective: The objective of this research was to evaluate the effects of bromelain (derived from Ananas comosus) upon periodontitis in rats.
Materials And Methods: Twenty-four rats were separated into groups: control, periodontitis, and bromelain treatment. Bromelain was administered daily by intraperitoneal injection for 20 days.

Aims: Periodontitis results from the presence of periodontopathogenic bacterial activity in the region of the gingival sulcus promoting tissue degradation and alveolar bone resorption. Biochemical analysis of the saliva can be used as a less invasive method for disease prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between biochemical protein levels in the saliva sample of patients with chronic periodontitis and healthy patients.

Sulfated polysaccharides (PLS) extracted from the marine algae of the genus Gracilaria showed biological activity in different inflammatory models, except for periodontitis. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment with PLS from Gracilaria caudata in ligature-induced periodontitis. 40 animals distributed into 5 groups were used (the control group (unligated), the ligated untreated group, and the ligated groups treated with 2.

Liver disease is related to the intake of foods rich in fat and sugars (high-fat). The objective of this study was to evaluate whether a high-fat diet can aggravate the liver disease caused by ligature-induced periodontitis in rats.

Objective Quantitatively evaluate blood parameters of the erythrocyte lineage in patients with chronic periodontitis and healthy controls by means of a meta-analysis. Material and methods A review of literature was performed in the scientific databases for studies published before September 2016. The abstracts were evaluated and the extraction of data performed by two examiners.

The objective of this study was to investigate periodontitis induced alterations in liver function and structure using an experimental model.
Methods: Twenty female rats (Rattus norvegicus) were allocated into two groups: control and periodontitis.
Polymorphisms in inflammatory genes such as interleukins 17A and 17F are associated with the risk of development of periodontitis, although the results remain contradictory. Hence, the aim of this study was perform a meta-analysis focusing on two polymorphisms (rs2275913 and rs763780) in interleukins 17A and 17F genes, respectively, in both chronic (CP) and aggressive periodontitis (AgP). A review in literature was performed in several databases for studies published before 25, September 2016.
