Factors associated with successful completion in an adolescent-only day hospital program for eating disorders.

The purpose of this study was to examine factors associated with completion of an adolescent-only eating disorder day hospital program. A total of 65 adolescents were included. Completers were compared to non-completers on multiple variables including diagnosis, weight, and medication use.

Association of subjective anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbance with quality-of-life ratings in adults with epilepsy.

Purpose: To determine the relative contributions of subjective anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, and seizure-related variables to quality-of-life scores in adults with epilepsy, and the interrelationships among these factors.

Methods: Consecutive adult patients with epilepsy attending neurology outpatient clinics were recruited. Patients completed the following scales: Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, Medical Outcomes Study (MOS) Sleep Scale, Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and Quality of Life in Epilepsy Inventory-31 (QOLIE-31).

Headache in patients with epilepsy: a prospective incidence study.

Association between ABCB1 C3435T polymorphism and drug-resistant epilepsy in Han Chinese.

There is accumulating evidence to suggest that overexpression of efflux drug transporters at the blood-brain barrier, by reducing antiepileptic drug (AED) accumulation in the seizure foci, contributes to drug resistance in epilepsy. P-glycoprotein, encoded by the ABCB1 gene, is the most studied drug transporter. There are conflicting data as to whether the CC genotype of the ABCB1 3435C>T polymorphism is associated with drug resistance in Caucasian patients with epilepsy.

Association between HLA-B*1502 allele and antiepileptic drug-induced cutaneous reactions in Han Chinese.

A previous study conducted in Taiwan found a 100% association between HLA-B*1502 allele and carbamazepine-induced Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) in Han Chinese subjects, with an extremely high odds ratio compared with carbamazepine-tolerant subjects (odds ratio = 2,504). We examined this association in 24 Hong Kong Han Chinese subjects who had cutaneous adverse reactions induced by different antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). They were matched with 48 AED-tolerant controls.

Topiramate for migraine prophylaxis among Chinese population.

We evaluated the efficacy and safety of topiramate for migraine prophylaxis among Chinese patients in a multicenter prospective observational study. We found that topiramate at low doses was effective in preventing migraine headache in Chinese patients and was generally well tolerated. There was no difference in baseline headache frequency or intensity between responders and nonresponders.

Treatment of lateral epicondylitis with botulinum toxin: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

Background: Lateral epicondylitis is a common condition for which botulinum toxin has been reported to have a therapeutic role in uncontrolled studies.

Objective: To determine if an injection of botulinum toxin is more effective than placebo for reducing pain in adults with lateral epicondylitis.

Design: Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial conducted from September 2002 to December 2004.
