Background: Burdening health and illness issues such as physical or mental illnesses, accidents, disabilities, and life events such as birth or death influence the health and functioning of families and contribute to the complexity of care and health care costs. Considerable research has confirmed the benefits of a family systems-centered care approach for patients, family caregivers, families, and health care professionals. However, health care professionals face barriers in working with families, such as feeling unprepared.

The aim of this article is to gather information on how nursing home residents feel respected and protected in regards of their dignity. A narrative literature review was conducted in the databases CINAHL Complete and PubMed.

The objective of this paper was to investigate the types of formal health and social care as well as informal care and social support used by home-dwelling frail older adults; whether they perceive their support as sufficient; and their experience with and preferences for care and support.
Methods: Using an explanatory sequential mixed methods design, we first conducted a secondary analysis of a subset of cross-sectional data from the ImplemeNtation of a community-baSed care Program for home dwelling senIoR citizEns (INSPIRE) population survey using descriptive analysis.
Introduction: Implementation science methods and a theory-driven approach can enhance the understanding of whether, how, and why integrated care for frail older adults is successful in practice. In this study, we aimed to perform a contextual analysis, develop a logic model, and select preliminary implementation strategies for an integrated care model in newly created information and advice centers for older adults in Canton Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland.
Methods: We conducted a contextual analysis to determine factors which may influence the integrated care model and implementation strategies needed.
"One always has to be watchful": Categorisation of patient-related complexity of nursing care in acute care hospitals The increase of chronic illnesses and multimorbidity as well as more challenging treatment methods have caused higher acuity and complexity of nursing care situations. The aim of this study was to explore and establish categories which describe different levels of patient-related complexity of nursing care in order to broaden the understanding of demands on nursing care due to patient situations. Using a collective case study design, we asked registered nurses and clinical nurse specialists to assess the complexity of twelve nursing care situations through a questionnaire before interviewing them about their deliberations on how they rated the situation.

Aim: The aim of this study was to redefine the concept of patient-related 'complexity of nursing care' in acute care hospitals.
Design: The hybrid model for concept development was chosen.
Aims: This study aimed to psychometrically test the instrument "Complexity of Nursing Care" and to broaden the understanding of the instrument's psychometrics and applicability.
Design: Embedded mixed-methods design.
Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study assessing all stationary patients of five Swiss hospitals daily for up to 5 days with the instrument "Complexity of Nursing Care" over a 1-month period in 2015.
Unlabelled: Patient-related complexity in nursing care - Collective case studies in the acute care hospital Abstract.
Background: Patient-related complexity of nursing is defined by the three characteristics "instability", "uncertainty", and "variability". Complexity increased in the past years, due to reduced hospital length of stay and a growing number of patients with chronic and multiple diseases.
Background: Patient-related complexity of nursing care in acute care hospitals has increased in recent years, in part due to shorter hospital stays and the increase in multimorbid patients. However, little research has been conducted on how nurses experience complex nursing care situations.
Aims: The aim of this study was to gain a better understanding of how nurses experience complex nursing care situations in Swiss acute care hospitals.
Aim: To define the concept of patient-related complexity of nursing care in acute care hospitals and to operationalize it in a questionnaire.
Background: The concept of patient-related complexity of nursing care in acute care hospitals has not been conclusively defined in the literature. The operationalization in a corresponding questionnaire is necessary, given the increased significance of the topic, due to shortened lengths of stay and increased patient morbidity.
Aim: To describe the minor surgery (MS) characteristics in a Primary Care (PC) centre, and to evaluate the clinical pathological concordance and patient satisfaction.
Design: Descriptive and retrospective study.
Setting: Primary Care, urban health care centre, Almería, Spain.
Despite considerable efforts to improve treatment modalities for osteosarcoma (OS), patient survival remains poor mainly due to pro-survival pathways in OS cells. Among others, prostaglandins (PGs) are the potent regulators of bone homoeostasis and OS pathophysiology. Therefore, the present study aimed to elucidate the impact of 15-deoxy-Δ(12,14)-PGJ2 (15d-PGJ2, a stable PGD2 degradation product) on cell death/cell survival pathways in p53-deficient MG-63 OS cells.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLysophosphatidic acid (LPA), a naturally occurring bioactive phospholipid, mediates a multitude of (patho)physiological events including activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). As LPA may induce cellular reponses in human osteosarcoma, the present study aimed at investigating expression of various LPA receptors, LPA-mediated activation of MAPK via G-protein coupling, and expression of early response genes in a cellular model for human osteosarcoma. We show that MG-63 cells express three members of the endothelial differentiation gene (Edg) family of G-protein coupled receptor transcripts (LPA(1-3)) but only two (LPA(4/5)) out of three members of the non-Edg family LPA receptor transcripts.

As inducible cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2) is a candidate inflammatory marker in human osteosarcoma and a rate-limiting enzyme in PG biosynthesis, this study aimed at investigating intracellular redox status and signaling cascades leading to Cox-2 induction in human MG-63 osteosarcoma cells.
