A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, amylolytic bacterial strain, designated as bsSlp3-1, was isolated from the Slepian water system, a freshwater reservoir. Strain bsSlp3-1 was found to be aerobic, oxidase-positive and catalase-negative, grew at 5-37 °C (optimum, 28 °C), pH 5.0-9.

Intracranial schwannomas (ICS) unrelated to the cranial nerves are extremely rare; around 70 cases have been reported worldwide. The available literature consists of case reports and small series that present variable characteristics distinguishing these lesions. Brain parenchyma schwannomas are typically benign tumors with currently unknown origins.

It is capable of degrading crude oil and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The BS3701 genome consists of a 6,337,358-bp circular chromosome and two circular plasmids (pBS1141 with 107,388 bp and pBS1142 with 54,501 bp).

The dielectric properties of WO suspensions in silicone oil were analyzed, depending on the frequency of the electric field, in the range from 25 to 10 Hz. Unmodified WO suspensions, as well as suspensions modified with sodium dodecyl sulfate, were shown to exhibit a positive electrorheological effect, whereas suspensions modified with dodecylamine demonstrated a negative electrorheological effect.

The nTMS is usually applied in presurgical planning to minimize the risk of surgery-related neurological deterioration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of nTMS data for GammaKnife treatment planning for patients suffering from brain metastases.

The conventional analytical filter paper was used as a precursor material for cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) production. Cellulose nanocrystals were extracted via a simple and quick two-step process based on first the complexation with Cu(II) solution in aqueous ammonia followed by acid hydrolysis with diluted H₂SO₄.

In experiments at 78 adult white outbred male rats were demonstrated that experimental hypothyroidism (injection of 25 mg/kg merkazolil within 20 days) stimulates, while small doses of L-thyroxine (1.5-3.0 μg/kg within 28 days) limit the intensification of lipid peroxidation in the myocardium under short exposure to stressors of a different nature: physical (t 4-5 °C within 30 minutes), chemical (injection of 25% ethanol at a dose of 3.

Unlike the traditional OCT that demonstrates images only in copolarization, CP OCT acquires images in cross-polarization and copolarization simultaneously. 116 patients with localized flat suspicious lesions in the bladder were enrolled, 360 CP OCT images were obtained and analyzed.

In response to prolonged exposure to urine, the mucosa was found to undergo gradual atrophic changes, including the reduction of its thickness and crypt depth. Moreover, the number of goblet cells was significantly decreased.

A randomized parallel study was performed to compare the antihypertensive effect of normobaric hypoxia and low energetic laser irradiation in 57 patients with essential hypertension stage I using 24-hour blood pressure monitoring. High hypotensive efficacy of both methods is demonstrated. A course of normobaric hypoxia decreased mean 24-h and mean daytime systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

The strains were isolated from patients with acute intestinal infection and from healthy persons. It was shown that in subbacteriostatic concentrations (100 to 450 micrograms/ml) pipolphen promoted elimination of the R plasmids.

Thirty four strains of Escherichia coli of the pathogenic and nonpathogenic serogroups were tested for their survival in normal human blood serum as dependent on the content of the R plasmids. It was shown that the capacity for the survival of the E. coli strains of different origin was widely distributed.

At the area of a natural focus of leptospirosis (caused by L. pomona) in the Mozdok region of the North Occetic ASSR leptospires were detected by the method of dark field microscopy in 22% of intact soil samples. The presence of pathogenic leptospires in this soil was not confirmed by the method of the biological assay on Syrian golden hamsters.

For the first time the experimental and field studies of Leptospira infections, carried out over the period of 6 years, have revealed that the habitat of striped field mice (Apodemus agrarius Pallas 1778) serving as a host for Leptospira pomona, serovar mozdok, is much wider than the habitat of the infective agent proper. The presence of an animal species highly sensitive to a definite leptospiral serovar and serving as its reservoir at a given locality cannot be regarded as a proof of the presence of the epizootic process without bacteriological confirmation. But, in the absence of homologous Leptospira carriage, intensive leptospiral seroconversion can be attributed to a population other than that of the host.

The drainage of a natural focus of leptospirosis of the flood plain-swamp type, carried out over the period of 15 years, has led to changes in the species structure of small mammals and to an increase in the number of Leptospira-carrying species. Nevertheless, like before drainage, the prevalent species and the main carrier of leptospires is still the root vole (Microtus oeconomus Pallas). The intensity of the epizootic process among small mammals at the final stage of drainage has proved to be similar to that at the initial stage.

Adult striped field mice (Apodemus agrarius) caught in the Altai region proved to be insusceptible to experimental infection when inoculated with Leptospira of serovar mozdok, serogroup Pomona. In pregnant females, though infected with this organism, no leptospiruria was observed. At the same time nonpubescent animals became Leptospira carriers, females becoming carriers 4.
