This review aims to synthesize the available evidence on the effect of RT on MU firing properties. MEDLINE (OVID interface), EMBASE (OVID interface), Web of Science (all databases), Cochrane Library, EBSCO CINAHL Plus, PubMed, and EBSCO SportDiscus were searched from inception until June 2021.

Despite this, there is a lack of data on sedation depth and its impact on outcome for mechanically ventilated patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Evaluation of a Genetics Education Program for Health Interpreters: A Pilot Study.

Health Interpreters enable effective communication between health practitioners and patients with limited knowledge of the predominant language. This study developed and evaluated a training session introducing Health Interpreters to genetics. Background: Recent literature has demonstrated that partial oral antibiotic treatment of infectious endocarditis is non-inferior to IV therapy in select patients. Despite the rising incidence of injection drug use-related endocarditis, partial oral therapy has not been well studied in persons who inject drugs.

Objectives: To evaluate the rate of relapsed infection and 90 day mortality in patients with infectious endocarditis treated with partial oral antibiotic therapy.

Purpose Of Review: In this review, we discuss modern cytokine delivery systems in oncologic care, focusing on modalities being developed in the clinical trials or currently in use. These include pegylation, immune-cytokine drug conjugates, cytokine-expressing plasmid nanoparticles, nonviral cytokine nanoparticles, viral systems, and AcTakines.

Recent Findings: Cytokine therapy has the potential to contribute to cancer treatment options by modulating the immune system towards an improved antitumor response and has shown promise both independently and in combination with other immunotherapy agents.

Quantifying Cell-Derived Changes in Collagen Synthesis, Alignment, and Mechanics in a 3D Connective Tissue Model.

Dysregulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) synthesis, organization, and mechanics are hallmark features of diseases like fibrosis and cancer. However, most in vitro models fail to recapitulate the three-dimensional (3D) multi-scale hierarchical architecture of collagen-rich tissues and as a result, are unable to mirror native or disease phenotypes. Herein, using primary human fibroblasts seeded into custom fabricated 3D non-adhesive agarose molds, a novel strategy is proposed to direct the morphogenesis of engineered 3D ring-shaped tissue constructs with tensile and histological properties that recapitulate key features of fibrous connective tissue.

Explainable artificial intelligence to predict the risk of side-specific extraprostatic extension in pre-prostatectomy patients.

Introduction: We aimed to develop an explainable machine learning (ML) model to predict side-specific extraprostatic extension (ssEPE) to identify patients who can safely undergo nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy using preoperative clinicopathological variables.

Methods: A retrospective sample of clinicopathological data from 900 prostatic lobes at our institution was used as the training cohort. Primary outcome was the presence of ssEPE.

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) has a complex genetic, immune and metabolic pathophysiology. Recent studies implicated the gut microbiome in MS pathogenesis. However, interactions between the microbiome and host immune system, metabolism and diet have not been studied over time in this disorder.

Recidivism and mortality after in-jail buprenorphine treatment for opioid use disorder.

Background: Buprenorphine is an effective medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) when offered in community-based settings, but evidence is limited for incarcerated populations, particularly in relation to recidivism. In Massachusetts, Franklin County jail (FCSO) was among the first to provide buprenorphine; adjacent Hampshire County jail (HCHC) offered it more recently. These jails present a natural experiment to determine whether outcomes are different between individuals who did and did not have the opportunity to receive buprenorphine in jail.

Alginate Hydrogel Microtubes for Salivary Gland Cell Organization and Cavitation.

Understanding the different regulatory functions of epithelial and mesenchymal cell types in salivary gland development and cellular organization is essential for proper organoid formation and salivary gland tissue regeneration. Here, we demonstrate a biocompatible platform using pre-formed alginate hydrogel microtubes to facilitate direct epithelial-mesenchymal cell interaction for 3D salivary gland cell organization, which allows for monitoring cellular organization while providing a protective barrier from cell-cluster loss during medium changes. Using mouse salivary gland ductal epithelial SIMS cells as the epithelial model cell type and NIH 3T3 fibroblasts or primary E16 salivary mesenchyme cells as the stromal model cell types, self-organization from epithelial-mesenchymal interaction was examined.

Background: To shed light on the earliest events in oncogenesis, there is growing interest in understanding the mutational landscapes of normal tissues across ages. In the last decade, next-generation sequencing of human tissues has revealed a surprising abundance of cells with what would be considered oncogenic mutations.

Aims: We performed meta-analysis on previously published sequencing data on normal tissues to categorize mutations based on their presence in cancer and showcase the quantity of cells with cancer-associated mutations in cancer-free individuals.

Safety and efficacy of avapritinib in advanced systemic mastocytosis: the phase 1 EXPLORER trial.

Advanced systemic mastocytosis (AdvSM) is a rare hematologic neoplasm driven by the KIT D816V mutation and associated with poor survival. This phase 1 study ( NCT02561988 ) evaluated avapritinib (BLU-285), a selective KIT D816V inhibitor, in patients with AdvSM. The primary endpoints were the maximum tolerated dose, recommended phase 2 dose and safety of avapritinib.

Background: Many weight loss programs show short-term effectiveness, but subsequent weight loss maintenance is difficult to achieve. Digital technologies offer a promising means of delivering behavior change approaches at low costs and on a wide scale. The Navigating to a Healthy Weight (NoHoW) project, which was funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, aimed to develop, test, and evaluate a digital toolkit designed to promote successful long-term weight management.

The Global Impact of COVID-19 on the Care of People With Endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a chronic condition affecting ~10% of women globally. Little is known about the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on their care. This brief report is aimed to explore the impact of COVID-19 on the care of people with endometriosis around the world, their priorities in relation to their clinical care during and coming out of the pandemic, and whether they believed that endometriosis makes them more vulnerable to COVID-19.

Healthcare professionals' perspectives on infant feeding support in paediatric inpatients: single-centre qualitative study.

Objective: To provide information on baseline knowledge, skills and attitudes (KSA) of paediatric staff to formulate a plan for improving infant feeding support in hospitals.

Design: Semistructured interviews assessed baseline infant feeding KSA and experiences in 14 paediatric health professionals of various grades (medical students, healthcare assistants, ward nurses and specialist nurses). Audio recordings were transcribed verbatim and underwent thematic analysis.

Background: Nitrous oxide is a colourless, odourless gas that has been used in medicine for more than 150 years for its anaesthetic and analgesic properties. Its first recorded use as a recreational drug was in early 19th century Britain at 'laughing gas parties', where it was used to provide short-lived euphoria to the bored upper class. A recent resurgence of its abuse among Australian youth has led to marked neurological morbidity.

Adherence to treatment and prevalence of side effects when medical abortion is delivered via telemedicine: a prospective observational cohort study during COVID-19.

Background: The Scottish government introduced legislation during the COVID-19 outbreak to permit medical abortion at home with telemedicine. All women received an initial telephone consultation. For those choosing medical abortion, we provided self-administered medications to eligible women with pregnancies under 12 weeks' gestation.

Quantification of Fluid Volume and Distribution in the Paediatric Colon via Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Previous studies have used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to quantify the fluid in the stomach and small intestine of children, and the stomach, small intestine and colon of adults. This is the first study to quantify fluid volumes and distribution using MRI in the paediatric colon. MRI datasets from 28 fasted (aged 0-15 years) and 18 fluid-fed (aged 10-16 years) paediatric participants were acquired during routine clinical care.
