SARS-CoV-2: A Professional and social gamechanger - Medical and dental aspects.

This study reports the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak and its impact on dental practice and education in Brazil. A literature review involving medical and dental interests was performed based on recent general findings about the infection (research and relevant guidelines). COVID-19 is a high transmissible, unpredictable systemic disease, involving a viral replication phase, followed by an inflammatory phase that can evolve into hyperinflammation that leads to a cytokine storm and other serious issues including sepsis, shock and multiple organ failure.

Evaluation of antibody response to the heptavalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in pediatric chronic kidney disease.

Pneumococcal vaccination has been recommended for immunocompromised children, including patients with chronic kidney disease. We determined pneumococcal immunoglobulin (Ig)G antibodies to serotypes 4, 6B, 9V, 14, 18C, 19F, and 23F before and after 48 pediatric patients with chronic renal failure were administered heptavalent conjugated pneumococcal vaccine. The patients were between 1 and 9 years of age and were separated into a conservative treatment group (Group 1) and a dialysis group (Group 2).

Evaluation of humoral response to heptavalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in HIV-infected children.

Objective: Invasive pneumococcal disease is a major cause of death in HIV-infected children. The objective of the study was to assess the quantitative antibody response to the seven pneumococcal serotypes of heptavalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in a group of HIV-infected children.

Methods: Study comprising 40 HIV-infected children aged between 2 and 9 years followed up in a specialized outpatient clinic in São Paulo, Brazil, between 2002 and 2003.

Reliability of information on varicella history in preschool children.

Objective: To verify how reliable is the information provided by parents about the history of varicella in their children.

Methods: 204 parents of previously healthy children attending two municipal day-care centers of São Paulo city were interviewed between August 2003 and September 2005. A standardized form was filled out with information regarding age, sex, history of varicella and other diseases, drug use and antecedent of immunization, After medical history, physical examination and checking of immunization records, 5 ml of blood were collected for ELISA (in house) varicella test.

[Benign paroxysmal torticollis of infancy: diagnosis and clinical evolution of six patients].

Benign paroxysmal torticollis of infancy is an episodic disorder that occurs suddenly and spontaneously in the first months of life. The patient's head tilts to one side for hours or days, and sometimes it can be associated with other symptoms like vomiting, sweating, pallor, irritability, headache and unstable gait. We report six patients with benign paroxysmal torticollis of infancy, whose symptoms began within the first six months of life and disappeared by five years of age.
