Background: As part of the 2021 changes to breast reconstruction CPT codes, the Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) recommended adjustments to work RVUs (wRVUs) based on newly surveyed intraoperative times. Our objective was to gauge the accuracy of operative time and wRVU adjustments using national data as a benchmark.
Methods: We queried the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) database for operative times from 2005-2021 for reevaluated CPT codes.
Lower lip malposition can occur after anterior mandibular resection as a result of the loss of soft tissue lip attachments. We report our technique of cranial suspension of the lower lip with fascia lata slings to improve lip position. Correction of lip ptosis results in cessation of drooling, improved oral intake, and restoration of facial aesthetics.

The purpose of this study was to characterize payer-disclosed commercial facility rates and examine the relationship with county-level social disadvantage for common breast surgical procedures.
Materials And Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study of 2023 pricing data for 14 ablative and reconstructive breast procedures from Turquoise Health.
Background: Tissue expander (TE) infection is a critical postoperative complication in two-stage implant-based breast reconstruction (IBBR). We assessed risk factors associated with TE infection and reconstructive loss and examined reconstructive salvage rates.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent IBBR with TE placement from 2017 to 2022.
Background: Concerns about low accrual have long been a standard part of the discourse on cancer clinical trials, reaching even as far as the news media. Indeed, so many trials are closed before completing accrual that a cottage industry has recently developed creating statistical models to predict trial failure. Background: Following passage of the Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 (WHCRA), a steady rise in breast reconstruction rates was reported; however, a recent update is lacking. This study aimed to evaluate longitudinal trends in breast reconstruction (BR) rates in the United States and relevant sociodemographic factors.
Methods: Mastectomy cases with and without BR from 2005 through 2017 were abstracted from the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database; the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program database; and the National Cancer Database (NCDB).
Background: Despite increasing demand for breast capsular surgery to treat various benign and malignant implant-related pathologies, high-quality evidence elucidating complication profiles of capsulectomy and capsulotomy is lacking.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to provide the largest-scale analysis of associated outcomes and complications using the Tracking Operations and Outcomes for Plastic Surgeons (TOPS) database, and to investigate clinical scenarios that may subject patients to increased risks for complications, most notably extent of capsular surgery (complete vs partial) and index indication of implantation (aesthetic vs reconstructive).

The objective of this study was to characterize timing of surgery for breast and colon cancer patients undergoing cancer operations following routine screening.
Study Design: Data from the IBM MarketScan Commercial Claims Database from 2007 to 2016 were queried to identify patients who underwent screening mammogram and/or colonoscopy.
Background: There is a lack of literature of health-related quality of life endpoints for radial forearm (RF) versus anterolateral thigh (ALT) free flap reconstruction for glossectomy defects. Our goal was to perform a comprehensive evaluation of clinical, functional, and quality of life outcomes after glossectomy reconstruction using a RF or ALT flap.
Methods: A retrospective review was performed on patients who underwent glossectomy and immediate reconstruction with RF or ALT flaps between 2016 and 2021.
Background: Using real working examples, we provide strategies and address challenges in linear and logistic regression to demonstrate best practice guidelines and pitfalls of regression modeling in surgical oncology research.
Methods: To demonstrate our best practices, we reviewed patients who underwent tissue expander breast reconstruction between 2019 and 2021. We assessed predictive factors that affect BREAST-Q Physical Well-Being of the Chest (PWB-C) scores at 2 weeks with linear regression modeling and overall complications and malrotation with logistic regression modeling.
