To investigate whether the sex and genetic background of the mice are important factors in the development of hyperglycemia, we used ICR mice and divided them into male, female, and ovariectomized female (FOVX) groups and treated them with streptozotocin (STZ) for five consecutive days to induce diabetes. Our results show that fasting blood glucose and hemoglobin A (HbA) levels were significantly higher in diabetes-induced males (M-DM) and ovariectomized diabetes-induced females (FOVX-DM) than in diabetes-induced females (F-DM) at 3 and 6 weeks after STZ treatment.

As inactivation of TRAP1 induces massive apoptosis in cancer cells and , the development of TRAP1-selective inhibitors has become an attractive approach. A series of purine-8-one and pyrrolo[2,3-]pyrimidine derivatives was developed based on TRAP1 structure and identified to be highly selective in vitro for TRAP1 over the paralogous enzymes, Hsp90α and Grp94.

However, how the CHADS(2) score is related to stroke severity and outcome in patients with strokes due to atrial fibrillation has not yet been elucidated.
Methods: We enrolled patients with atrial fibrillation who visited our stroke center within 7 days after the onset of acute ischemic stroke between October 2002 and September 2008.

Rhabdomyolysis is a life-threatening syndrome caused by skeletal muscle injury, which results in the leakage of myoglobin, other intracellular proteins and electrolytes into the circulatory system and urine. Acute kidney injury occurs in 13-50% of patients with rhabdomyolysis, which is the principal cause of their mortality. This is to report an emergency operation performed on a patient with traumatic rhabdomyolysis and compartment syndrome who developed life-threatening hyperkalemia caused by reperfusion injury after vascular anastomosis.
