Introduction: Sodium glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors increase urinary glucose excretion (UGE) by reducing the renal threshold for glucose excretion, which results in decreased serum glucose concentrations in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). However, no study to date has determined whether larger increases in UGE after SGLT2 inhibitor treatment correspond to larger reductions in glycated hemoglobin (HbA).

Methods: We enrolled participants who were newly prescribed an SGLT2 inhibitor (dapagliflozin 10 mg or ipragliflozin 50 mg, once daily) as an add-on therapy.

Background: The gold standard for antinuclear antibody (ANA) screening is the indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) assay with human epithelial cells (HEp-2). However, a number of substantial disadvantages of manual IIF assays have highlighted the need for the automation and standardization of fluorescent ANA (FANA) testing. We evaluated the performance of EUROPattern Suite (Euroimmun AG, Germany), an automated FANA image analyzer, with regard to ANA detection and pattern recognition compared with conventional manual interpretation using the fluorescence microscopic IIF assay.

Background: Salivary gland cancers (SGCs) are uncommon and account for less than 5% of all head and neck cancers, but they are histologically heterogeneous. No specific therapy, including targeted agents, has consistently improved clinical outcomes in recurrent/metastatic SGC. Recent studies suggest that vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) and platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR) play important roles in SGC.

Cystine, an oxidized form of cysteine (Cys), is imported into cells via the protein xCT, which is also associated with the export of glutamate as the counter amino acid. In the current study, we attempted to rationalize roles of xCT in the livers of male mice. While xCT was not expressed in the livers of ordinary mice, it was induced under conditions of glutathione depletion, caused by the administration of acetaminophen (AAP).

Background: Septal extension grafts are an effective means of extending nasal length in patients with a short nose. However, such grafts can be challenging in patients who only have small quantities of weak septal cartilage, such as some East Asian patients. We developed a rhinoplasty technique using ethmoid bone to create a cartilage-bone complex to overcome this issue, allowing adequate nasal lengthening.

Here, we report a pH- and thermo-responsive fluorescent nanomaterial of functionalized reduced graphene oxide (rGO) with cross-linked polymer produced via catechol-boronate diol binding mechanism. When conjugated with the hydrophobic dye boron dipyrromethane (BODIPY), this material can act as a dual-responsive nanoplatform for cells imaging. 2-Chloro-3',4'-dihydroxyacetophenone (CCDP)-quaternized-poly(dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate-co-N-isopropylacrylamide) [C-PDN] was cross-linked with BODIPY and 4-chlorophenyl boronic acid (BA)-quaternized-poly(ethylene glycol)-g-poly(dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate-co-N-isopropylacrylamide) [BB-PPDN].

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can ameliorate renal injury and accelerate repair of acute kidney injury. Herein, we developed a collagen/poly(γ-glutamic acid) (γ-PGA) hydrogel as an injectable scaffold for the delivery of mouse MSCs (mMSCs) and anti-oxidant drugs into injured sites. By the introduction of γ-PGA into conventional collagen, the viscosity of collagen was reduced at ambient temperature for easy handling, while the elastic and viscous moduli of collagen were increased and a new porous structure was generated near body temperature.
