Obesity is the one of the most important components of metabolic syndrome. Because obesity related hypertension accounts for two thirds of essential hypertension, managing obesity and metabolic syndrome is a crucial task in the management of hypertension. However, the current non-pharmacological therapies have limitations for achieving or maintaining ideal body weight.

Background And Objectives: Lipid lowering therapy is essential to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events; however, limited evidence exists regarding the use of statin with ezetimibe as primary prevention strategy for middle-aged adults. We aimed to investigate the impact of single pill combination therapy on clinical outcomes in relatively healthy middle-aged patients when compared with statin monotherapy.

Methods: Using the Korean National Health Insurance Service database, a propensity score match analysis was performed for baseline characteristics of 92,156 patients categorized into combination therapy (n=46,078) and statin monotherapy (n=46,078) groups.

Nocturnal blood pressure (BP) has been shown to have a significant predictive value for cardiovascular disease. In some cases, it has a superior predictive value for future cardiovascular outcomes than daytime BP. As efficacy of BP medications wanes during nighttime and early morning, control of nocturnal hypertension and morning hypertension can be difficult.

Hypertension is the leading cause of death in human being, which shows high prevalence and associated complications that increase the mortality and morbidity. Controlling blood pressure (BP) is very important because it is well known that lowering high BP effectively improves patients' prognosis. This review aims to provide a focused update of the 2018 Korean Hypertension Society Guidelines for the management of hypertension.

Background: Brain oedema after cardiac arrest is strongly associated with poor neurological outcomes. Excessive sodium supplementation may increase serum osmolarity and facilitate brain oedema development in cardiac arrest survivors. We aimed to investigate the association of serum sodium levels with long-term neurological outcomes in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survivors.

Article Synopsis
  • * Out of 1,128 participants, the prevalence of INHT was found to be 22.8%, with individuals showing higher blood pressure readings compared to those with normal day-night blood pressure.
  • * It was discovered that INHT was particularly prevalent among individuals with masked hypertension (MH), and the findings suggest that those in the prehypertension range should undergo 24-hour blood pressure monitoring due to the high occurrence of both INHT and MH.

Purpose: Residual cardiovascular risk in patients with hypertriglyceridemia, despite optimal low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels being achieved with intensive statin treatment, is a global health issue. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of treatment with a combination of high-dose atorvastatin/Ω-3 fatty acid compared to atorvastatin + placebo in patients with hypertriglyceridemia who did not respond to statin treatment.

Methods: In this multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, patients who had residual hypertriglyceridemia after a 4-week run-in period of atorvastatin treatment were randomly assigned to receive UI-018 (fixed-dose combination atorvastatin/Ω-3 fatty acid 40 mg/4 g) or atorvastatin 40 mg + placebo (control).

Antihypertensive drugs are one of the most widely used pharmacologic agent in the world and it is predominantly used in the elderly subjects. Pneumonia is the most common cause of death in the extremely old subject. During infection and its complication such as sepsis, hypotension could be exacerbated by antihypertensive drugs because homeostasis mechanisms such as sodium balance, renin angiotensin aldosterone system and/or sympathetic nervous system can be mitigated by antihypertensive drug therapy.
