Article Synopsis
  • - MDCTU is an effective imaging method for investigating malignant lesions in the upper urinary tract, particularly in patients over 50 with hematuria, but appropriate use is needed to minimize radiation exposure.
  • - In a study of 173 patients, MDCTU showed a 66.7% sensitivity and a 98.5% specificity for detecting upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UUTUC), with five strong predictors identified, including age and the use of Warfarin.
  • - Ultimately, the study concluded that MDCTU can help determine which patients may not need further invasive procedures like ureteroscopy, effectively diagnosing the source of hematuria in 57% of cases.
