Purpose: Robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) is a tissue-preserving approach to treating renal cancer, where ultrasound (US) imaging is used for intra-operative identification of tumour margins and localisation of blood vessels. With the da Vinci Surgical System (Sunnyvale, CA), the US probe is inserted through an auxiliary access port, grasped by the robotic tool and moved over the surface of the kidney. Images from US probe are displayed separately to the surgical site video within the surgical console leaving the surgeon to interpret and co-registers information which is challenging and complicates the procedural workflow.

Producing manual, pixel-accurate, image segmentation labels is tedious and time-consuming. Background: Type 3 von Willebrand's disease (VWD) patients present markedly reduced levels of von Willebrand factor and factor VIII. Because of its rarity, the bleeding phenotype of type 3 VWD is poorly described, as compared to type 1 VWD.

Background: In older people, multiple chronic ailments lead to the intake of multiple medications (polypharmacy) that carry a number of negative consequences (adverse events, prescription and intake errors, poor adherence, higher mortality). Because ageing patients with haemophilia (PWHs) may be particularly at risk due to their pre-existing multiple comorbidities (arthropathy, liver disease), we chose to analyse the pattern of chronic drug intake in a cohort of PWHs aged 60 years or more.

Patients And Methods: S + PHERA is a multicentre observational study, with the broad goal to evaluate prospectively the health status and medication intake in 102 older patients with severe haemophilia A or B compared with 204 age- and residence-matched controls chosen randomly from the same general practices of PWHs.

Type 3 Von Willebrand disease is an autosomal recessive disease caused by the virtual absence of the von Willebrand factor (VWF). A rare 253 kb gene deletion on chromosome 12, identified only in Italian and German families, involves both the VWF gene and the N-terminus of the neighbouring TMEM16B/ANO2 gene, a member of the family named transmembrane 16 (TMEM16) or anoctamin (ANO). TMEM16B is a calcium-activated chloride channel expressed in the olfactory epithelium.

Background And Objective: Treatment with vitamin K antagonists (VKA) reduces fibrinolytic resistance through the inhibition of thrombin-mediated activation of thrombin activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI). Because low-molecular weight heparin (LMWH) is co-administered with VKA during initiation of anticoagulant treatment, we evaluated the effect of dual anticoagulation on fibrinolytic resistance.

The most common forms of inflammation of the lower respiratory tract in lambs are acute enzootic pneumonia, caused mainly by Mannheimia haemolytica, chronic enzootic pneumonia (defined as 'atypical' in lambs), the aetiological of which is Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae and viral inflammation principally caused by parainfluenza virus type 3. The authors conducted anatomopathological and histopathological studies of the most commonly encountered spontaneous lung inflammations in lambs slaughtered in the Abruzzo region of Italy, with special attention to 'atypical pneumonia'. Microbiological isolations and a histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis were performed to reveal any possible correlations between causal agents and lesion patterns.

PTX3 is a prototypic long pentraxin consisting of a C-terminal 203-amino acid pentraxin-like domain coupled with an N-terminal 178-amino acid unrelated portion. The present study was designed to characterize the structure and ligand binding properties of human PTX3, in comparison with the classical pentraxins C-reactive protein and serum amyloid P component. A panel of monoclonal antibodies to human IL-1 beta has been used to probe its conformational and functional characteristics. Real time antibody-protein interaction was assessed by surface plasmon resonance with a BIAcore apparatus, in order to determine the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of the interaction and to map the recognition sites of the antibodies on the IL-1 beta surface. Topological analysis was thus compared to the inhibitory capacity of antibodies for IL-1 beta bioactivity and binding to the activating receptor IL-1RI.
