In the present studies, the assessment of how viral exacerbation of asthmatic responses with and without pulmonary steroid treatment alters the microbiome in conjunction with immune responses presents striking data. The overall findings identify that although steroid treatment of allergic animals diminished the severity of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)-induced exacerbation of airway function and mucus hypersecretion, there were local increases in IL-17 expression. Analysis of the lung and gut microbiome suggested that there are differences in RSV exacerbation that are further altered by fluticasone (FLUT) treatment.

We report herein a method for the contra-thermodynamic protection and thermodynamic deprotection of alcohols in which all reagents are returned to their original state. This is accomplished by the use of visible light photochemical energy to drive the formation of a highly strained -()-cyclohexene. At STP the product ethers contain more potential energy than the starting materials and, thus, can be catalytically returned to the starting materials, effectively realizing a protection-deprotection scheme paid for with an energy currency.

The pathogenesis of asthma has been partially linked to lung and gut microbiome. We utilized a steroid-resistant chronic model of cockroach antigen-induced (CRA) asthma with corticosteroid (fluticasone) treatment to examine lung and gut microbiome during disease. The pathophysiology assessment demonstrated that mucus and airway hyperresponsiveness were increased in the chronic CRA with no alteration in the fluticasone (Flut)-treated group, demonstrating steroid resistance.

is a leading cause of gastroenteritis that has been causally linked with development of the autoimmune peripheral neuropathy Guillain Barré Syndrome (GBS). Previously, we showed that isolates from human enteritis patients induced Type1/17-cytokine dependent colitis in interleukin-10 (IL-10) mice, while isolates from GBS patients colonized these mice without colitis but instead induced autoantibodies that cross-reacted with the sialylated oligosaccharide motifs on the LOS of GBS-associated and the peripheral nerve gangliosides. We show here that infection of IL-10 mice with the GBS but not the colitis isolate led to sciatic nerve inflammation and abnormal gait and hind limb movements, with character and timing consistent with this syndrome in humans.

The Warrior to Soul Mate (W2SM) program is a grassroots initiative on the part of Veterans Affairs chaplain services to provide relationship enhancement skills to veterans and significant others based on the Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills model. To examine the implementation and sustainability of the W2SM program, two online surveys were sent to each participating facility's W2SM leader. The first examined how individual W2SM events were conducted (100% response rate, 67 surveys) and the second assessed facility-level issues impacting program sustainability (100% response rate, 23 surveys).
