Objectives: This prospective study investigated persistent reflux of the below knee great saphenous knee (GSV) 2 years after stripping the above knee GSV and the effect on reflux of postoperative incompetent perforating veins (IPVs).

Methods: Included were 59 consecutive ambulatory patients in a community hospital with untreated primary varicose veins and reflux of the saphenofemoral junction and at least the GSV in the upper leg. Patients underwent a preoperative clinical examination and color flow duplex ultrasound imaging.

Objective: The objectives of this study were to investigate the occurrence of residual varicose veins (visible and ultrasonic) at the below-knee level after short-stripping the great saphenous vein (GSV) and to investigate the possible role of preoperative incompetent perforating veins (IPVs) on the persistence of these varicose veins.

Methods: In this prospective study in 59 consecutive patients (74 limbs) with untreated primary varicose veins, a preoperative clinical examination and preoperative color flow duplex imaging were performed. Re-evaluation (clinical examination and color flow duplex imaging) was performed 6 months after surgery.

Introduction And Methods: The most frequent complication of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) arteriovenous grafts for hemodialysis is thrombotic occlusion due to stenosis caused by intimal hyperplasia. This complication is also known for peripheral bypass grafts. Because the use of a venous cuff at the distal anastomosis improves the patency of peripheral bypass grafts, we considered that it might also improve the patency of PTFE arteriovenous grafts.

A continuous production of significant pancreatic enzymes, which are thought to be responsible for the maintenance of the digesting process, is frequently found in fulminant necrotizing pancreatitis. Since the medical therapies known to be effective are based upon the rationale of slowing pancreatic secretion, a simple measure which permits the "burning out" of residual pancreatic tissue might therefore have a therapeutic value. In this study, 2 hr after the induction of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, 5 dogs (Group I) were treated with 1.

Operative reduction with internal fixation for the fractured olecranon is generally considered to be the treatment of choice whenever there is separation of the fragments. In grossly comminuted fractures, however, anatomical reconstruction often cannot be achieved satisfactorily. In such cases excision of the loose fragments of the olecranon and re-attachment of the triceps tendon to the shaft of the ulna offers a better solution when the fracture is proximal to the coronoid process.
