- Sometimes, a patient can make decisions now, but if they keep not following their treatment, they might get sick and unable to decide later.
- We introduce a new idea called "foreseeable risk," which means a patient could lose their ability to make decisions soon, and we also talk about how to help keep them safe and protect their rights.
Childhood trauma and neglect influence emotional development and increase the risk for and severity of mental illness. Women have a heightened susceptibility to the effects of early life stress (ELS) and are twice as likely as men to develop debilitating, stress-associated disorders later in life, such as major depressive disorder (MDD). Until now, mouse models of depression have been largely unsuccessful at replicating the diverse symptomatology of this disease and the sex bias in vulnerability.
