Article Synopsis
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common in postmenopausal women and can lead to serious health and financial issues, but the specific risk factors in healthy women have not been fully explored.
  • A case-control study was conducted involving women aged 55-75 to identify potential UTI risk factors by comparing those with UTIs (cases) to randomly selected controls.
  • The study found that factors like being sexually active, having a history of UTIs, diabetes, and incontinence increased UTI risk, while the effect of oral estrogen on UTI risk was inconclusive; further research is needed in diverse populations.
