Article Synopsis
  • The review evaluates the effectiveness and safety of Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi) for treating moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) in adolescents, highlighting a need for systemic therapies in this age group.
  • While JAKi like abrocitinib, baricitinib, and upadacitinib show promise with quick results, baricitinib is ineffective in younger children aged 2 to 10 years.
  • Major safety concerns have not emerged in adolescent trials, though there are minor issues like herpes zoster infections and acne, indicating that JAKi could be a valuable option for managing severe AD in young patients.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a disease with an impact on the patient's quality of life (QoL). Several tools have been designed to assess the clinical severity of the disease, such as the Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI), while specific instruments have been created to assess QoL, such as the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and the Quality of Life Index for Atopic Dermatitis (QoLIAD).

Objective: To define which tool is the best to assess the QoL condition of adult patients with AD in relation to the EASI.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease with a worldwide prevalence between 6 and 39% in moderate to severe forms. In European countries like Germany and England was identified that only one third of patients with moderate to severe forms will receive systemic management, this fact motivated to integrate into Europe an international consensus on treatment goals with the aim of providing support to the dermatologist by algorithms that serve as a therapeutic guide that allows you to gain control short and long term effects of this disease. The European group met to develop the definitions of severity of psoriasis, treatment goals for moderate to severe disease, and optimization options and / or therapeutic transition than a paper published in 2011 was obtained.

Congenital generalized terminal hypertrichosis is a rare disease, especially when associated with gingival hyperplasia. Congenital hypertrichosis can be a clinical feature of several syndromes, so these patients must be studied by a multidisciplinary team that should include a dermatologist, geneticist, psychologist, odontologist, and an endocrinologist. We report a 7-year-old girl with congenital generalized hypertrichosis and gingival hyperplasia, and analyze the clinical approach, differential diagnosis, and treatment.
