A large body of research has evidenced different risk factors associated with the severity of gambling. However, most of the research has been conducted with a male population, and consequently it has been inferred that the female population presents the same experiences and characteristics. Research on female gamblers is limited, with the result that their gambling-related problems are not effectively addressed.

The differential outcomes procedure (DOP) is an easily applicable method for enhancing discriminative learning and recognition memory. Its effectiveness in improving the recognition of facial expressions of emotion has been recently explored, with mixed success. This study aims to explore whether the expectancies generated via the DOP are reflected as differences in event-related potentials (ERPs) between participants in differential (DOP) or non-differential conditions (NOP) in a facial expression of complex emotion label task.

Article Synopsis
  • Research indicates that individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) struggle with recognizing facial expressions of emotions, and their relatives may experience milder similar challenges, known as the Broad Autism Phenotype (BAP).
  • The study used a Differential Outcomes Procedure (DOP) to assess emotion recognition in both adults with ASD and their relatives, finding that the ASD group performed worse than the BAP group in recognizing fear.
  • Results emphasized the need to consider various autism dimensions in research and showed that both groups needed lower intensity levels to identify emotions through DOP, suggesting it may help improve emotion recognition skills.

A fundamental tenet of evolutionary genetics is that the direction and strength of selection on individual loci varies with the environment. Barcoded evolutionary lineage tracking is a powerful approach for high-throughput measurement of selection within experimental evolution that to date has largely been restricted to studies within microbial systems, largely because the random integration of barcodes within animals is limited by physical and molecular protection of the germline. Here, we use the recently developed TARDIS barcoding system in (Stevenson et al.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how insecure attachment influences emotional dependence on partners, particularly focusing on the role of emotional regulation difficulties.
  • Participants aged 18 to 30 (N=741) were analyzed to see how their attachment styles (secure, preoccupied, dismissing) affected their emotional dependence and emotional regulation abilities.
  • Findings indicate that those with a dismissing attachment style show greater emotional dependence and struggle with managing negative emotions, suggesting that interventions should address emotional regulation to reduce dependency in relationships.

A common problem in confocal microscopy is the decrease in intensity of excitation light and emission signal from fluorophores as they travel through 3D specimens, resulting in decreased signal detected as a function of depth. Here, we report a visualization program compatible with widely used fluorophores in cell biology to facilitate image interpretation of differential protein disposition in 3D specimens. Glioblastoma cell clusters were fluorescently labeled for mitochondrial complex I (COXI), P2X7 receptor (P2X7R), β-Actin, Ki-67, and DAPI.

We present a framework -Digi-DOP- that includes a series of evidence-based recommendations to design and apply cognitive interventions for people with Neurocognitive Disorders (NCDs) using a relatively new approach, the Differential Outcomes Procedure (DOP). To do so, we critically review the substantial experimental research conducted with relevant clinical and non-clinical populations, and the theoretical underpinnings of this procedure. We further discuss how existing digital technologies that have been used for cognitive interventions could be applied to overcome some of the limitations of DOP-based interventions and further enhance DOP benefits.

Photobiomodulation (PBM) has been demonstrated as a non-invasive and painless technique with great potential to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement (OTM). However, there is a great inconsistency among PBM protocols and reported outcomes, probably due to the poor translatability of preclinical knowledge into early clinical practice. Hence, this review aims to fill this gap by establishing the state-of-the-art on both preclinical and clinical applications of PBM, and by comprehensively discussing the most suitable stimulation protocols described in the literature.

Tumors develop in an oxidative environment characterized by peroxynitrite production and downstream protein tyrosine (Y) nitration. We showed that tyrosine nitration supports schwannoma cell proliferation and regulates cell metabolism in the inheritable tumor disorder NF2-related Schwannomatosis (NF2-SWN). Here, we identified the chaperone Heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) as the first nitrated protein that acts as a metabolic switch to promote schwannoma cell proliferation.
