Polymyxins are still widely used for the treatment of carbapenem-resistant and bloodstream infections (BSIs). This study seeks to evaluate the impact of polymyxin B versus colistin on mortality and nephrotoxicity in BSI caused by these bacteria. We conducted a retrospective cohort study from 2014 to 2021 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

The Impact of COVID-19 Lockdown on Adults with Major Depressive Disorder from Catalonia: A Decentralized Longitudinal Study.

The present study analyzes the effects of each containment phase of the first COVID-19 wave on depression levels in a cohort of 121 adults with a history of major depressive disorder (MDD) from Catalonia recruited from 1 November 2019, to 16 October 2020. This analysis is part of the Remote Assessment of Disease and Relapse-MDD (RADAR-MDD) study. Depression was evaluated with the Patient Health Questionnaire-8 (PHQ-8), and anxiety was evaluated with the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7).

Background: Despite some evidence for the adoption of endoscopic transnasal trans-sphenoidal surgery (ETSS) for pituitary adenomas, the advantages of this technique over the traditional approach have not been robustly confirmed.

Objective: To compare ETSS with the microscopic sublabial trans-septal trans-sphenoidal surgery (MTSS) for pituitary adenomas.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 2 cohorts of ETSS and MTSS performed at our institution from 1995 to 2017.

The objective of our study was to study which is the most accurate specimen for histological diagnosis of prosthetic joint infections (pseudocapsule or interface membrane). This is a prospective study including hip revision arthroplasties performed from January 2007 to June 2009. Specimens from pseudocapsule and from interface membrane were obtained from each patient.

Metrological traceability of values for alpha-amylase catalytic concentration assigned to a commutable calibrator materials.

Background: The International Standard ISO 18153 describes how to assure the metrological traceability of catalytic concentration values assigned to commercial calibration materials following the reference measurement system. We applied this approach to the standardization of alpha-amylase measurements.

Methods: Traceable values of catalytic activity with measurement uncertainty were assigned to three commercial calibrator materials using alpha-amylase primary reference measurement procedure described by the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC).
