Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the effectiveness of transforaminal full-endoscopic lumbar discectomy (FELD) in treating lateral lumbar disc herniation in 58 adult patients over 12 months post-surgery.
  • Significant improvements in pain and disability scores were observed, with a high patient satisfaction rate of 91% and a low reoperation rate of 6.9%.
  • Key factors such as the duration of symptoms and preoperative radicular pain levels were identified as predictors of better outcomes, highlighting the technique as safe and effective but indicating a need for further research.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares two surgical treatments for thumb osteoarthritis—total trapeziectomy and trapeziometacarpal prostheses—by analyzing complications and their prevalence based on 74 reviewed articles involving 4,865 patients.
  • Severe complications occurred more frequently with prostheses (23.88%) than with trapeziectomy (6.13%), leading to higher revision rates for prostheses (12.8%) compared to trapeziectomy (2.0%).
  • The results suggest that total trapeziectomy might be better reserved for complex revision surgeries, particularly for patients with lower functional demands, due to the higher uncertainty surrounding complications after revising trapeziectomies.

Lumbar disc arthroplasty is a surgical procedure designed to treat degenerative disc disease by replacing the affected disc with a mobile prosthesis. Several types of implants fall under the term total disc replacement, such as ball-and-socket, mobile core or elastic prostheses. Some studies have shown that facet arthritis can develop after arthroplasty, without much precision on the mechanical impact of the different implant technologies on the facet joints.
