Pru p 3, a member of the lipid transfer protein family, is considered a major allergen from peach as it often induces serious allergic reactions in peach-allergic individuals. The high resistance of Pru p 3 to processing treatments and to digestion or enzymatic hydrolysis is probably the cause of the severity of this fruit allergy. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of treatment with a large number of proteases from different origins (vegetal, animal and microbial) on the degradation and allergenicity of Pru p 3.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the molecular mechanisms behind cellular senescence, which is crucial for developing treatments for age-related diseases by preventing the aging of stem cells.
  • Researchers conducted a genome-wide CRISPR activation screening in human mesenchymal precursor cells and identified SOX5 as a key factor that can combat cellular senescence.
  • The findings show that SOX5 enhances the activity of the geroprotective gene HMGB2, leading to rejuvenation effects in aged mice, thus highlighting SOX5 as a promising target for therapies aimed at reversing aging effects.

Aging is a major risk factor contributing to pathophysiological changes in the heart, yet its intrinsic mechanisms have been largely unexplored in primates. In this study, we investigated the hypertrophic and senescence phenotypes in the hearts of aged cynomolgus monkeys as well as the transcriptomic and proteomic landscapes of young and aged primate hearts. SIRT2 was identified as a key protein decreased in aged monkey hearts, and engineered SIRT2 deficiency in human pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes recapitulated key senescence features of primate heart aging.

Genomic Instability (GI) is a transversal phenomenon shared by several tumor types that provide both prognostic and predictive information. In the context of high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC), response to DNA-damaging agents such as platinum-based and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi) has been closely linked to deficiencies in the DNA repair machinery by homologous recombination repair (HRR) and GI. In this study, we have developed the Scarface score, an integrative algorithm based on genomic and transcriptomic data obtained from the NGS analysis of a prospective GEICO cohort of 190 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumor samples from patients diagnosed with HGSOC with a median follow up of 31.

This study aimed to examine the difference in therapy satisfaction between lesbian, gay, and bisexual + (LGB +) individuals and heterosexual individuals, and to identify the association between therapy satisfaction and the perception of knowledge and attitudes of their last therapist among the LGB + participants. Through an exploratory design with a comparative group, 125 LGB + and 75 heterosexual participants were recruited online by availability. Results indicate that the participants' sexual orientation has no significant relation on therapy satisfaction.

Background: Oxygen desaturation during exercise is mainly observed in severe cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and is associated with a worse prognosis, but little is known about the type of desaturation that causes the greatest risk of mortality.

Material And Methods: We studied all of the 6-min walk tests performed periodically at a tertiary hospital over a period of 12 years in patients with moderate or severe COPD. We classified patients as non-desaturators if they did not suffer a drop in oxygen saturation (SpO2 < 88%) during the test, early desaturators if the time until desaturation was < 1 min, and non-early desaturators if it was longer than 1 min.

The coming out process has biopsychosocial components that occur whenever a lesbian, gay or bisexual (LGB) person shares their sexual orientation with another person. It is a complex and difficult process, but it has been described as an essential component for identity formation and integration. The purpose of this pilot study was to assess a Multidimensional Intelligences Model (MIM) (Body, Emotional, Social, and Ecological Intelligences) as predictor of the coming out acceptance (COA) and growth (COG).

Transgenerational epigenetic inheritance in mammals remains a debated subject. Here, we demonstrate that DNA methylation of promoter-associated CpG islands (CGIs) can be transmitted from parents to their offspring in mice. We generated DNA methylation-edited mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs), in which CGIs of two metabolism-related genes, the Ankyrin repeat domain 26 and the low-density lipoprotein receptor, were specifically methylated and silenced.

Exercise benefits the whole organism, yet, how tissues across the body orchestrally respond to exercise remains enigmatic. Here, in young and old mice, with or without exercise, and exposed to infectious injury, we characterized the phenotypic and molecular adaptations to a 12-month exercise across 14 tissues/organs at single-cell resolution. Overall, exercise protects tissues from infectious injury, although more effectively in young animals, and benefits aged individuals in terms of inflammaging suppression and tissue rejuvenation, with structural improvement in the central nervous system and systemic vasculature being the most prominent.
