At a time when increasing attention is paid to sustainability in chemistry, levulinic acid (LA) is one of the most important platform chemicals for the goal of overcoming our dependence on fossil raw materials. In this work, a new catalytic route for the effective utilization of these humin byproducts, enabling a cyclic synthesis of LA using formic acid (FA) as organocatalyst is proposed. Selective catalytic oxidation (SCO) of humins using the H5PV2Mo10O40 (HPA-2) polyoxometalate (POM) catalyst produces FA that can be isolated from the aqueous reaction mixture by using nanofiltration membranes accompanied by a complete catalyst recycling (>99%).

Background: Complex biomechanical motion analysis can provide relevant information for a variety of orthopedic problems. When purchasing motion analysis systems, in addition to the classical measurement quality criteria (validity, reliability, objectivity), spatial and temporal conditions, as well as the requirements for the qualification of the measuring personnel should be considered.
Application: In complex movement analysis, systems are used to determine kinematics, kinetics and muscle activity (electromyography).
Conformational changes play a key role in the biological function of many proteins, thereby sustaining a multitude of processes essential to life. It was hypothesized that ACT is a safe technique for cartilage repair with a low incidence of postoperative complications and rare rates of revision surgery combined with a high long-term survival and good to excellent clinical outcome in long-term-follow-up.
Methods: All patients undergoing ACT-Cs of the knee joint between 2006 and 2012 at the author's institution were included in this retrospective study.

The two most common infections are secondary peritonitis and surgical site infections, which lead to increased perioperative morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, higher mortality rates, and increased treatment costs. The potential efficacy of exercise in the context of prehabilitation ranges from preoperatively improving patients' functional capacity to inducing cellular mechanisms that affect organ perfusion via endothelial regeneration, anti-inflammatory processes and tumour defense.
Recent Findings: Current studies show that prehabilitation is capable of reducing certain postoperative complications and length of hospital stay in certain patient populations.
An increasing number of studies on biomolecular function indirectly combine mass spectrometry (MS) with imaging techniques such as cryo electron microscopy (cryo-EM). This approach allows information on the homogeneity, stoichiometry, shape, and interactions of native protein complexes to be obtained, complementary to high-resolution protein structures. We have recently demonstrated TEM sample preparation native electrospray ion-beam deposition (ES-IBD) as a direct link between native MS and cryo-EM.

It brings molecules gently into the gas phase, where they can be accurately manipulated and purified, followed by controlled deposition onto various substrates. Although mouse models have proven that physical exercise recruits NK cells to tumor tissue and inhibits tumor growth, this preclinical finding has not been transferred to the clinical setting yet. In this first-in-human study, we found that physical exercise mobilizes and redistributes NK cells, especially those with a cytotoxic phenotype, in line with preclinical models.
