As a corporation under public law, the federally established Medical Service (MD) is an organizationally and substantively independent socio-medical expert organization. It uses its expertise to support the health and nursing care insurance companies as well as their associations and other clients from the healthcare system nationwide in ensuring medical and nursing care within the social law solidarity community consisting of statutory health and social care insurance. In relation to the 12.

Objectives: To quantify the volume and characteristics of Finke Desert Race-related trauma presenting to the Alice Springs Hospital.
Purpose: It is unclear whether a difference in functional outcome exists between kinematically aligned (KA) and mechanically aligned (MA) knee replacements. The aim of this study is to perform a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis of the available level I-IV evidence.
Methods: A meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials and observational studies comparing patient reported outcome measures (PROMs), range of motion (ROM), gait analysis and complications in TKA with KA and MA was performed.
Background: Seroma is a common complication after mastectomy, with an incidence of 3% to 85%. Seroma is associated with pain, delayed wound healing, and additional outpatient clinic visits, leading potentially to repeated seroma aspiration or even surgical interventions. This study aimed to assess the effect of flap fixation using sutures or tissue glue in preventing seroma formation and its sequelae.

Every year, hospitals have to declare compliance with the quality requirements of the guideline in the form of checklists vis-à-vis the social service providers, who can have the data checked by the medical service of the health insurance (MDK) on site. Here we report on the experience with these tests in Hessian hospitals.

We timed bladder cancer drivers, mutational signatures, ploidy and copy number alterations, provided evidence for kataegis and correlated alterations with tumour areas and histological phenotypes. We found that: (1) heterogeneous tumour areas/phenotypes had distinct driver mutations, (2) papillary-invasive tumours divided early into two parallel evolving branches and (3) parallel evolution of subclonal driver mutations occurred.

Background: Helicopter emergency medical services are important in many health care systems. Norway has a nationwide physician manned air ambulance service servicing a country with large geographical variations in population density and incident frequencies. The aim of the study was to compare optimal air ambulance base locations using both population and incident data.

We consider SSLs at cool (77 K) and warm (295 K) temperatures, simulating the electronic response to variations in (a) the number of SSL periods, (b) the contact conductivity, and (c) the strength of disorder (aperiodicities). Our analysis shows that the chaotic dynamical phases exist on a number of sub-manifolds of codimension zero within the design parameter space.

It specifies and expands the legal requirements for future quality controls in hospitals performed by the Medical Review Board of the Statutory Health Insurance Funds (MDK). These controls are intended to ensure high-quality, patient-centered and needs-based medical care of the population.

Focal therapy may be a reasonable alternative with less side effects and morbidity. Application of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) induces immediate and irreversible coagulation.

Introduction: Hospital inpatient stays are reimbursed on the basis of German diagnosis-related groups (G-DRG). The G-DRG classification system is based on complex coding guidelines. The Medical Review Board of the Statutory Health Insurance Funds (MDK) examines the encoding by hospitals and delivers individual expertises on behalf of the German statutory health insurance companies in cases in which irregularities are suspected.

Both the surface composition and the surface structure of the resulting TiO(x) films exhibit a strong dependence on the preparation conditions. Loss of the chemical order and Ti segregation are observed at the Pt(3)Ti(111) surface upon oxygen exposures of more than 135 l at 1000 K.

A [(18)F]Fluoride water target was constructed for a Scanditronix MC 17 cyclotron, without a beam line, with a typical wide beam of ∼30 × 5 mm(2). Niobium was used as target chamber material. One hour irradiation with 45μA protons yields about 110 GBq [(18)F]Fluoride.

Due to surgery duration variability and arrivals of emergency surgeries, the planned Operating Room (OR) schedule is disrupted throughout the day which may lead to a change in the start time of the elective surgeries. These changes may result in undesirable situations for patients, wards or other involved departments, and therefore, the OR schedule has to be adjusted. In this paper, we develop a decision support system (DSS) which assists the OR manager in this decision by providing the three best adjusted OR schedules.

A cytostatic treatment with MTX and bleomycin was performed empirically but did not show any satisfactory efficacy. The conversion of the chemotherapeutic regime to a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (sunitinib) showed a morphologically visible and clinically proven success in terms of a significant slowing down of the previous rapid progression of the disease.

Repair of massive rotator cuff tears in the elderly can be challenging because of degenerative, retracted, and contracted tendons producing an extensive defect. The quality of the tendon and particularly the bone of the proximal humerus is an inherent weakness in the repaired construct. We report a method that secures the rotator cuff to a fixation post placed in cortical bone at the surgical neck of the humerus, bypassing the weakest point.

It is not so much the question of maintaining their traditional functions but of developing them in order to maintain at least the status quo. These challenges consist for example of the lack of a scientific basis for the complex function of allocation, piloting and control of medical resources.
