Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on engineering fibrocartilage to replace injured meniscus tissue, which doesn't heal on its own due to being avascular.
  • - Researchers tested how human meniscus fibrochondrocytes perform on type I collagen scaffolds in different oxygen conditions (hypoxia and normoxia) over various time periods (3, 6, and 9 weeks).
  • - Findings revealed that normoxia enhanced mechanical properties and matrix development over time, while hypoxia suppressed hypertrophic traits, aiding in determining optimal conditions for dynamic culture in meniscus tissue engineering.

Skin cancer patients often have tumorigenic lesions on their noses. Surgical resection of the lesions often results in nasal cartilage removal. Cartilage grafts taken from other anatomical sites are used for the surgical reconstruction of the nasal cartilage, but donor-site morbidity is a common problem.
