Objectives: The aim was to investigate the impact of smoking on pocket closure at 6 months after treatment of severe periodontitis, in relation to residual clinical inflammation.

Method And Materials: The clinical records of deep pockets (probing depth ≥ 6 mm, n = 984) in 46 individuals with periodontitis were analyzed. Following baseline clinical assessments (Plaque Index, probing depth, clinical attachment level, and bleeding on probing), nonsurgical periodontal treatment was performed.

Effects of oral isotretinoin treatment for acne vulgaris patients on anger responses and the relationship with temperament.

Objective: Isotretinoin is the only medication against all the factors involved in acne vulgaris pathogenesis. The aim of our study was to verify whether patients with acne vulgaris receiving isotretinoin therapy exhibit elevated anger levels and to observe the correlation between age, temperament traits, and anger.

Methods: The study group comprised a sum of 100 cases, involving 50 individuals with acne vulgaris-required high-dose retinol therapy and 50 controls who did not start any medication.

Materials And Methods: Fifty-four lithium disilicate and 54 zirconia disks were prepared with CAD/CAM. On each material, scaling with a stainless-steel curette or with a piezoelectric device using either a steel or plastic tip was conducted.

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a metabolic disorder that occurs during pregnancy that increases both maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity. It was investigated whether there is a change in circulating levels of preptin, a new peptide secreted from pancreatic beta cells, due to GDM in pregnant women. The relationship between serum preptin levels with insulin and other metabolic parameters was also evaluated in these subjects.

This study aimed to compare tissue levels of CD80 (pro-inflammatory macrophage-related surface marker), CD163, and CD206 (anti-inflammatory macrophage-related surface markers), and their ratios in periodontal and peri-implant health and disease. Altogether, 36 tissue samples were obtained from 36 participants with clinically healthy gingiva ( = 10), healthy peri-implant mucosa ( = 8), periodontitis lesions ( = 9), and peri-implantitis lesions ( = 9). CD80, CD163, and CD206 levels were assessed with immunoblotting.

Background: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between healing response after non-surgical periodontal treatment and baseline gingival tissue levels of M2 macrophage activation-related proteins CD163, interleukin (IL)-10, interferon (IFN)-γ, and tumor necrosis factor-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK), and the CD163/TWEAK ratio.

Clinical parameters were recorded in periodontally healthy individuals at baseline and in periodontitis patients at pre-treatment and 2, 6, and 12 weeks following therapy.

Background: We aimed to compare the level of hepatic FIB-4 scores between COVID-19 patients who had pneumonia and COVID-19 patients who had no pneumonia in an attempt to develop a risk assessment after the treatment and recovery of active COVID-19 infection.

Methods: The study included 80 patients who were consecutively selected and admitted to an internal medicine outpatient clinic for a control examination after COVID-19 infection. Chest tomography was performed on all patients during the COVID-19 infection.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antioxidant effect of systemically administered caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) in periodontitis.

Materials And Methods: Forty rats were randomly divided into four groups: control, lipopolysaccharide-induced experimental periodontitis (LPS), CAPE 5: LPS+5 μmol/kg/day CAPE, and CAPE 10: LPS+10 μmol/kg/day CAPE. Following lipopolysaccharide-induced experimental periodontitis, CAPE was administered intraperitoneally for 28 days.

Determining INR Awareness of the Patients who Use Warfarin and Rates of Achieving the Target Dosage.

Objectives: Warfarin is the most frequently used therapy as an oral anticoagulant medication for reducing the risk of thromboembolic complications. However, poor adherence to therapy may cause ineffective INR levels with increased complication risk. In our study, we aimed to show the rates of INR awareness of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) using warfarin and whether they achieved the targeted INR values.

One-pot synthesis of oxazolidinones and five-membered cyclic carbonates from epoxides and chlorosulfonyl isocyanate: theoretical evidence for an asynchronous concerted pathway.

The one-pot reaction of chlorosulfonyl isocyanate (CSI) with epoxides having phenyl, benzyl and fused cyclic alkyl groups in different solvents under mild reaction conditions without additives and catalysts was studied. Oxazolidinones and five-membered cyclic carbonates were obtained in ratios close to 1:1 in the cyclization reactions. The best yields of these compounds were obtained in dichloromethane (DCM).

We aimed to demonstrate the correlation between ovarian reserve and DM1, based on the view that women with type-1 diabetes mellitus (DM1) will have lower AMH levels secondary to poor glycemic control and autoimmune attacks. Ovarian functions of 42 patients diagnosed with DM1 who use insulin and 65 healthy volunteers were analyzed.

Objective: To study pitavastatin's effects on nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-B ) and adhesion molecules in human saphenous vein graft endothelial culture indicating its pleotropic properties.

Materials And Method: Low-dose (0.1 M/L) and high-dose (1M/L) pitavastatin calcium were administered as a frontline therapy in human saphenous endothelial cell culture, followed by induction of inflammation by TNF- and determination of mRNA level alterations of ICAM-1 and NF-B genes of endothelial cells using the qRT-PCR method.

In this study, we aimed to determine the relationship between erectile dysfunction and the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), which is a simple and nonspecific inflammatory marker.

Materials And Methods: Ninety patients with erectile dysfunction (ED) and ninety-four healthy subjects were included in this study from our internal medicine and urology clinics.

The Relationship between Epicardial Adipose Tissue Thickness and Serum Interleukin-17a Level in Patients with Isolated Metabolic Syndrome.

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between the epicardial adipose tissue thickness (EATT) and serum IL-17A level insulin resistance in metabolic syndrome patients. This study enrolled a total of 160 subjects, of whom 80 were consecutive patients who applied to our outpatient clinic and were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, and the other 80 were consecutive patients who were part of the control group with similar age and demographics in whom the metabolic syndrome was excluded. The metabolic syndrome diagnosis was made according to International Diabetes Federation (IDF)-2005 criteria.

Plasma Zonulin Levels as a Non-Invasive Biomarker of Intestinal Permeability in Women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.

We aimed to compare the levels of plasma zonulin, a non-invasive biomarker of increased intestinal permeability, between pregnant subjects, with and without gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), at 24⁻28 gestational weeks. The eighty-five consecutive pregnant subjects that presented to our hospital's obstetrics outpatient clinic and were diagnosed with GDM, for the first time by an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), formed the GDM group; 90 consecutive subjects that were not diagnosed with GDM by OGTT, formed the control group. The diagnosis of GDM was made by an OGTT performed between the 24th and 28th weeks of gestation, and in compliance with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) criteria.

Synthesis and characterization of albumin imprinted polymeric hydrogel membranes for proteomic studies.

In this presented study, a novel molecularly imprinted polymeric hydrogel membranes (PHMs) were developed to use for the albumin depletion studies. For this, albumin imprinted poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-N-methacryloyl-(L)-phenylalanine methyl ester) polymeric hydrogel membranes [p(HEMA-MAP) PHMs] were synthesized by the photopolymerization technique, and then characterized by SEM, EDX, FT-IR and swelling studies. Synthesized PHMs had spherical structure and the MAP monomer incorporation onto the PHMs was determined by EDX analysis by using nitrogen stoichiometry.
