Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. New targeted therapies against the once-deemed undruggable oncogenic KRAS are changing current therapeutic paradigms. However, resistance to targeted KRAS inhibitors almost inevitably occurs; resistance can be driven by tumor cell-intrinsic changes or by changes in the microenvironment.

: Sodium glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors have emerged as integral therapeutic tools in the management of patients with cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome. In addition to their well-documented effects on lowering glucose levels and cardiovascular- and reno-protective actions, SGLT-2 inhibitors, through a reduction in body weight (BW), generate changes in the body composition and volume status that have not been clearly studied. : This retrospective, observational longitudinal cohort, single-center study analyzed and compared body composition and fluid status measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) from weeks 0 to 12 after the initiation of the cardiac rehabilitation (CR) program for coronary artery disease and heart failure in 59 patients who started treatment with SGLT-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2iG) and 112 patients without SGLT-2 inhibitors (non-SGLT-2iG).

Universal, School-Based Mental Health Literacy Programs for Middle School Students: A Scoping Review.

Background: Universal, classroom-based mental health literacy (MHL) curricula are associated with improved mental health knowledge, attitudes, and help-seeking behaviors. Young adolescents are an ideal target given their need for and receptivity toward MHL education.

Methods: We conducted a scoping review to identify universal, school-based MHL programs primarily for students aged 10-14 years, with adequate descriptions of curriculum implementation and content, and measured outcomes.

Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML) is a rare and aggressive form of leukemia with characteristics of both myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDSs). This study aims to explore the clinical features, survival outcomes, and prognostic factors in CMML patients over the past 20 years using a large sample. The study data from 4124 patients diagnosed with CMML between 2000 and 2017 were sourced from the SEER database.

Estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer commonly disseminates to bone marrow, where interactions with mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) shape disease trajectory. We modeled these interactions with tumor-MSC co-cultures and used an integrated transcriptome-proteome-network-analyses workflow to identify a comprehensive catalog of contact-induced changes. Conditioned media from MSCs failed to recapitulate genes and proteins, some borrowed and others tumor-intrinsic, induced in cancer cells by direct contact.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a well-evidenced impact on adolescents, who are especially sensitive to pandemic disruptions given the critical role of socialization in their development. In Chile too, evidence shows increases in mental health complaints among adolescents over the lockdown period. Our study aimed at exploring the experiences of Chilean adolescents regarding their mental health during the lockdown and school closure (March 2020-December 2021), and during the return to on-site education (2022) as informed by adolescents and school staff, with a focus on family, school, and social sources of risk and support for adolescents' wellbeing during these periods.

The recent extension measurement of the spatial morphology of a microquasar, SS 433, to TeV gamma rays localizes the acceleration of electrons at shocks in the jet far from the black hole.

Examining Health Behaviors as Mechanisms Linking Earlier Pubertal Timing with Accelerated Epigenetic Aging in Late Adolescence.

Earlier pubertal timing is associated with accelerated epigenetic aging, but the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. This three-wave longitudinal study examined negative health behaviors, specifically substance use, short sleep duration, and poor diet quality in middle adolescence, as mediators of links between earlier phenotypic and perceived pubertal timing measured in early adolescence and epigenetic aging on three epigenetic clocks in late adolescence (GrimAge, DunedinPACE, and PhenoAge). Phenotypic pubertal timing measured physical pubertal maturation relative to chronological age, whereas perceived pubertal timing was based on adolescents' subjective interpretation of their pubertal timing relative to their peers.

This relationship may be moderated by adolescents' empathy, with more empathic youth viewing their parents' conflict behavior as less acceptable, and thus refraining from dating violence perpetration. This study sought to determine if empathy buffers the effects of inter-parental conflict in early adolescence on expected dating violence perpetration in early adolescence and actual dating violence perpetration in late adolescence and adulthood.

Our study investigates the variations in emotion regulation strategies among individuals with different attachment styles (AS). Specifically, we examine how individuals with secure, anxious, avoidant, and fearful attachment styles effectively utilize cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression to regulate their emotions.

International support for abortion education in medical schools: results of a global online survey to explore abortion willingness, intentions, and attitudes among medical students in 85 countries.

Introduction: Access to safe abortion has been recognized as a fundamental human right and important public health priority. Medical schools provide a rare opportunity to expose medical students to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) topics and normalize abortion care early in a physician's career.

Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study used an online survey to explore abortion content in medical curricula and medical student intentions, attitudes, and beliefs regarding abortion provision among 1,699 medical students from 85 countries.

Interpersonal school violence and mother-child communication about violence in relation to empathy in early adolescence.

Introduction: Exposure to interpersonal violence at school has been linked with lower empathy, but less is known about factors that may moderate this relationship. Positive parent-child communication has been associated with higher empathy during adolescence and children of parents that communicate their disapproval of violent behavior respond more peacefully in situations involving violence. Mother-child communication about violence may therefore reduce the risk of desensitization to violent behavior and promote empathy in youth that are frequently exposed to violence.

Inherited and germ-line de novo copy number variants (CNVs) are increasingly found to be correlated with human developmental and cancerous phenotypes. Several models for template switching during replication have been proposed to explain the generation of these gross chromosomal rearrangements. We proposed a model of template switching (ODIRA-origin dependent inverted repeat amplification) in which simultaneous ligation of the leading and lagging strands at diverging replication forks could generate segmental inverted triplications through an extrachromosomal inverted circular intermediate.
