Case Presentation: We present a case of a 10-year-old male who developed an atraumatic, nasal septal hematoma with abscess following several days of rhinorrhea and cough. His chief complaint to the emergency department was a two-day history of nasal swelling and discomfort, associated with difficulty breathing through his nose. The patient was well-appearing with swelling and tenderness along the external nasal ridge and nasal septal swelling that occluded both nares.

This case demonstrates an atypical presentation of the disease and offers approaches to potentially prevent missed diagnoses.

Background: There is limited data assessing simulation and virtual reality training as a standardized tool in medical education. This feasibility study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of virtual reality training and a student-led simulation module in preparing medical students to perform a lumbar puncture.
Methods: Twenty-five medical students completed a pre-intervention survey, and a baseline video recorded lumbar puncture procedure on a task trainer.

The hippocampus in particular appears to "recover" from chronic stress-induced morphological and functional deficits following a post-stress rest period of several weeks. We previously found that hippocampal brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) was necessary for spatial ability to improve following a post-stress rest period.
