An investigation of the owner- and pet-related factors that may affect the use of alternative feeding practices in dogs and cats in Hungary.

Background: Alternative feeding practices have become increasingly popular among companion animal owners. We sought to identify possible factors behind the choice of alternative feeding types.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed with Hungarian pet owners.

Xanthohumol-Enriched Beer Does Not Exert Antitumorigenic Effects on HeLa Cell Line In Vivo.

Xanthohumol is a hop-derived flavonoid that has been widely examined for its health-protecting and antitumorigenic properties, but not yet in a natural beer matrix. The aim of the study was to investigate the antitumorigenic potential of a xanthohumol-enriched beer in vivo. Four groups of 4 × 10 nude mice were formed.

[The low FODMAP diet supported by a mobile application for functional gastrointestinal and inflammatory bowel diseases].

Diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract such as functional gastrointestinal diseases – including irritable bowel syndrome – as well as inflammatory bowel diseases are on the rise in Hungary. More and more nutritional recommendations are emerging as part of the therapy, but so far there is no uniform recommendation for the dietary management of these gastrointestinal diseases. Among the dietary recommendations that have been made so far, the low FODMAP diet is noteworthy.

Influence of cognitive function and nurse support on malnutrition risk in nursing home residents.

Aim: To predict malnutrition risk of older residents by cognitive function, nurse support and self-care capacity as primary measures of interest.

Design: Cross-sectional, correlation design with linear regression analysis.

Methods: Older residents over 60 years of age were randomly selected from nursing homes.

Substantial variation across geographic regions in the obesity prevalence among 6-8 years old Hungarian children (COSI Hungary 2016).

Background: There have been previous representative nutritional status surveys conducted in Hungary, but this is the first one that examines overweight and obesity prevalence according to the level of urbanization and in different geographic regions among 6-8-year-old children. We also assessed whether these variations were different by sex.

Methods: This survey was part of the fourth data collection round of World Health Organization (WHO) Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative which took place during the academic year 2016/2017.

[Support of diabetes dietary management and self-management using mobile applications].

The key components of successful diabetes therapy are pharmacotherapy, hospital care and lifestyle education. Lifestyle education, self-management, and composing the right diet can be effectively supported with mobile applications. In this paper Hungarian mobile applications are reviewed and compared to some international competitors.
