Inhibiting the tribological failure of mechanical assemblies which rely on fuels for lubrication is an obstacle to maintaining the lifetime of these systems with low-viscosity and low-lubricity fuels. In the present study, a MoVN-Cu nanocomposite coating was tribologically evaluated for durability in high- and low-viscosity fuels as a function of temperature, load, and sliding velocity conditions. The results indicate that the MoVN-Cu coating is effective in decreasing wear and friction relative to an uncoated steel surface.

Minimizing the wear of the surfaces exposed to mechanical shear stresses is a critical challenge for maximizing the lifespan of rotary mechanical parts. In this study, we have discovered the anti-wear capability of a series of metal nitride-copper nanocomposite coatings tested in a liquid hydrocarbon environment. The results indicate substantial reduction of the wear in comparison to the uncoated steel substrate.

Moving mechanical interfaces are commonly lubricated and separated by a combination of fluid films and solid 'tribofilms', which together ensure easy slippage and long wear life. The efficacy of the fluid film is governed by the viscosity of the base oil in the lubricant; the efficacy of the solid tribofilm, which is produced as a result of sliding contact between moving parts, relies upon the effectiveness of the lubricant's anti-wear additive (typically zinc dialkyldithiophosphate). Minimizing friction and wear continues to be a challenge, and recent efforts have focused on enhancing the anti-friction and anti-wear properties of lubricants by incorporating inorganic nanoparticles and ionic liquids.

Purpose: Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and its receptor play a major role in the development of follicles and regulation of steroidogenesis in the ovary and spermatogenesis in the testis. We aim to analyze the role of FSHR gene variants (single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in exon 10 (codon 307 and 680) and in the core promoter region (at position -29) and Ala189Val inactivating mutation) in Turkish infertile women. There were studies analyzing the effects of the SNPs in exon 10 (codon 307 and 680) and in the core promoter region (at position -29) of the FSHR gene on spermatogenesis, but to our knowledge, there were no studies analyzing the effects of these three SNP combinations on female fertility.

The oxidized layers at the surface of hydrogenated diamond-like carbon (H-DLC) were studied with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure, and Raman spectroscopy. The structure of these layers was correlated with the friction and wear behavior observed on H-DLC. H-DLC is well-known for its ultralow friction in inert environments, but the steady superlubricious state is always preceded by a run-in period with a high friction.

Nanoconfinement effects of boundary lubricants can significantly affect the friction behavior of textured solid interfaces. These effects were studied with nanotextured diamond-like carbon (DLC) surfaces using a reciprocating ball-on-flat tribometer in liquid lubricants with different molecular structures: n-hexadecane and n-pentanol for linear molecular structure and poly(α-olefin) and heptamethylnonane for branched molecular structure. It is well-known that liquid lubricants with linear molecular structures can readily form a long-range ordered structure upon nanoconfinement between flat solid surfaces.
