Objectives: To compare the Ca2+ loss of enamel treated with 38% hydrogen peroxide (HP), 35% HP with light, and 10% carbamide peroxide (CP).

Method And Materials: Ten extracted premolars were sectioned buccolingually and longitudinally so that 4 specimens were obtained from each tooth. The specimens were randomly assigned to 1 of 4 groups to receive the following bleaching agents: 38% HP, 35% HP with light, 10% CP, and no agent (control).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate how antituberculous drugs affect the functions of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs), specifically their phagocytic and intracellular killing activities, using in vitro methods with healthy volunteers' PMNs.
  • Certain drugs like prothionamide, amikacin, and ofloxacin increased the phagocytic activity of PMNs significantly, while ofloxacin alone improved PMNs' intracellular killing activity. However, no other drugs showed significant effects compared to control.
  • Despite some drugs enhancing PMN functions, no combinations resulted in additive or synergistic effects and none led to decreased PMN functions; the findings suggest reconsidering drugs that negatively impact immune function for better alternatives.

A cold vapour-atomic absorption spectrometry (CV-AAS) method for determining mercury in dental students and clinical teaching staff red blood cells at a dental school using amalgam as a restorative material has been validated. A number of blood samples (n = 122) from dental students in years I to V, clinical teachers in restorative dentistry and controls were collected and analysed. Accuracy, linearity, precision (repeatability and reproducibility) and robustness of the method have been determined, and detection and quantification limits have been calculated.

Clinical analyses have a vital importance in human health. Thus, it is necessary to have reliable analytical information which depends on a good assessment of accuracy and this can be obtained by minimization of uncertainty values. The uncertainty values are complex and arise from different sources such as sample, method, instrumentation and data processing.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of feed withdrawal and darkening on the antioxidative status of laying hens in high ambient temperatures between 30-40 degrees C. We determined vitamins A and E, lipid peroxidation as thiobarbituric-acid reactive substances (TBARS), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and reduced glutathione (GSH) in the serum, liver and muscle. Sixteen week old hens (Ross Brown) were divided into 3 groups of 30 hens each.
