Background: In 2018, the European Medicines Agency issued some risk minimisation measures related to unresolved adverse drug reactions (ADRs) reported for fluoroquinolones, including sensory ADRs. Spontaneous reporting databases frequently report unresolved outcomes for gustatory, olfactory and auditory (GOA) ADRs. However, such a high volume of unresolved GOA ADRs could reflect an under-investigated clinical issue or an intrinsic difficulty in the outcome assessment.

This comprehensive retrospective data-linkage study aimed at evaluating the impact of Direct-Acting Antivirals (DAAs) on Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) testing, treatment trends, and access to care in Tuscany over six years following their introduction. Utilizing administrative healthcare records, our work reveals a substantial increase in HCV tests in 2017, attributed to the decision to provide universal access to treatment. However, despite efforts to eradicate chronic HCV through a government-led plan, the target of treating 6,221 patients annually was not met, and services contracted after 2018, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Kidney transplant maintenance therapy usually includes calcineurin inhibitors like tacrolimus or cyclosporine, often paired with mycophenolate or mTOR inhibitors, and sometimes corticosteroids.
  • A study from Italy analyzed the risk and benefits of various immunosuppressive regimens in kidney transplant patients between 2009 and 2019, focusing on the safety and effectiveness of tacrolimus versus cyclosporine and comparing mTORi with mycophenolate.
  • Results indicated that tacrolimus therapy had lower risks of graft rejection and severe infections than cyclosporine, despite a higher incidence of diabetes; mTORi showed similar efficacy to mycophenolate, suggesting it could be a viable alternative.
