Background: Headache (HA) is the most common symptom impacting the quality of life of patients with Chiari I malformation. While HAs typically present in the occipital or suboccipital regions, and induced by Valsalva maneuver, complex migraine-like HAs referring to frontal or orbital regions also occur. Our study explores the therapeutic potential of C1 nerve root decompression in addition to increasing intracranial compliance in patients with Chiari I malformation.

Objective: Parkinson's disease (PD) as a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a reduction in both the quantity and functionality of dopaminergic neurons. This succinctly highlights the central pathological feature of PD and its association with dopaminergic neuron degeneration, which underlies the motor and non-motor symptoms of the disease. This study aims to elucidate the nuances of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) changes in different cerebral regions by after the bilateral subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery of PD, as well as to investigate their potential interactions with the motor and neuropsychiatric spectrum.

Article Synopsis
  • Hepatitis Delta virus (HDV) significantly contributes to liver-related health issues in patients with HBV, prompting France to enhance testing for anti-HDV antibodies in HBsAg-positive individuals since January 2022.
  • A study comparing six years of serology data showed a more than 2-fold increase in HDV diagnoses among HBsAg carriers and a notable rise in anti-HDV positive rates from 6.8% to 10.3% overall.
  • The improved testing strategy has allowed for earlier identification of HBV-HDV co-infected patients, enabling timely referrals to specialists and potential treatment with bulevirtide, signaling promising outcomes for patient management.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of five porcelain repair systems on shear bond strength in composite and zirconia infrastructures and to identify the bond failure mode after thermocycling.

Materials And Methods: Disk-shaped zirconia samples (n=50) were divided into five groups (n=10) according to repairing system type. Each repair system was applied to the zirconium samples and a hybrid composite was used for repairing.

Aim: To histopathologically evaluate and compare bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-2, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and vitamin D receptor (VDR) levels in the ligamentum flavum (LF) of patients with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) and lumbar disc herniation (LDH).

Material And Methods: Surgical specimens of the LF in 25 patients who underwent surgery for LDH and 25 patients who underwent surgery for LSS were examined histopathologically. The prevalence and severity of BMP-2, VEGF, and VDR immunoreactivity were evaluated to create histoscores (prevalence × severity), which were compared between groups.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the safety and effectiveness of cryoballoon (CB) and radiofrequency (RF) ablation techniques in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who also have a left common pulmonary vein (LCPV).
  • A total of 127 patients were analyzed, with no significant differences found in procedure success rates (97.5% for CB vs. 97.9% for RF) or complication rates (7.5% for CB vs. 8.5% for RF).
  • During an average follow-up period of about 20 months, recurrence rates of atrial tachyarrhythmias were similar for both techniques (35.0% for

Lipoblastoma is a rare benign tumor originating from adipose tissue, usually seen in infancy and early childhood. Here, we present a case of scalp lipoblastoma in a 4-month-old that we treated surgically and review the literature. Although lipoblastomas may be seen in various locations during infancy and early childhood, rarely, they can also develop in the scalp.

Objective: To evaluate and discuss the outcomes of a combination of ventriculocystostomy (VC) and endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) for obstructive hydrocephalus (HCP) due to ventricular/cisternal arachnoid cysts, and only ETV for obstructive HCP due to different etiologies.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all 40 symptomatic patients (aged 4 months - 61 years) of obstructive HCP treated by ETV or VC+ETV during October 2014 - April 2019. VC+ETV was performed in 7 patients with intraventricular/cisternal arachnoid cyst and obstructive HCP.

Trigeminal neuropathic pain is the most debilitating pain disorder but current treatments including opiates are not effective. A common symptom of trigeminal neuropathic pain is cold allodynia/hyperalgesia or cold hypersensitivity in orofacial area, a region where exposure to cooling temperatures are inevitable in daily life. Mechanisms underlying trigeminal neuropathic pain manifested with cold hypersensitivity are not fully understood.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of bruxism on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in adults in relation to temporomandibular disorders (TMD).

Methods: Three hundred-fifteen adults of both sexes were divided into two groups: bruxers (n = 172) and controls (n = 143). The participants with TMD were divided into three subgroups based on myofascial pain, disc displacement, or both.

Genome-wide sequencing studies in pediatric cancer cohorts indicate that about 10% of patients have germline mutations within cancer predisposition genes. Within this group, primary immune deficiencies take the priority regarding the vulnerability of the patients to infectious agents and the difficulties of cancer management. On the other hand, early recognition of these diseases may offer specific targeted therapies and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation as an option.

In order to obtain a more-natural esthetic prothesis, the use of hybrid abutments is becoming widespread in implant dentistry. The aim of this in vitro study was to assess the effects of different surface treatments, as well as the effects of different combinations of surface treatments and cementation protocols, on the shear bond strength between titanium alloy disks and lithium disilicate glass-ceramics. Forty titanium-alloy disks (4 × 6.

Theoretically, by controlling neural membrane potential (V) in vivo, motion, sensation, and behavior can be controlled. Until now, there was no available technique that can increase or decrease ion concentration in vivo in real time to change neural membrane potential. We introduce a method that we coin electro-ionic modulation (EIM), wherein ionic concentration around a nerve can be controlled in real time and in vivo.

Orofacial muscle pain is a significant clinical problem because it affects eating, speaking, and other orofacial functions in patients. However, mechanisms underlying orofacial muscle pain are not fully understood. In the present study we induced orofacial muscle pain by injecting Complete Freund's Adjuvant (CFA) into masseter muscle of rats and assessed pain by the orofacial operant test.
