[Surgical treatment outcomes ın peripheral nerve lesions due to gunshot injuries: assessment of 28 cases].

Background: In this retrospective study, we present the results and outcomes in our clinic of 28 patients over 8 years who received surgical treatment for peripheral nerve lesions due to gunshot injury.

Methods: The patients came to our clinic between January 2002 and February 2010. All came within 1-6 months after the initial gunshot injury and underwent surgery due to the diagnosis of peripheral nerve lesion.

Evaluation of right ventricular function in patients with tetralogy of Fallot using the myocardial performance index and isovolumic acceleration: a comparison with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.

Background: Assessment of right ventricular function is a key point in the follow-up of operated patients with tetralogy of Fallot. Cardiac magnetic resonance assessment of right ventricular function is considered the gold standard. However, this technique is expensive, has limited availability, and requires significant expertise to acquire and interpret the images.

Preparation and characterization of sodium dodecyl sulfate doped polypyrrole solid phase micro extraction fiber and its application to endocrine disruptor pesticide analysis.

A robust in house solid-phase micro extraction (SPME) surface has been developed for the headspace (HS)-SPME determination of endocrine disruptor pesticides, namely, Chlorpyrifos, Penconazole, Procymidone, Bromopropylate and Lambda-Cyhalothrin in wine sample by using sodium dodecylsulfate doped polypyrrole SPME fiber. Pyrrole monomer was electrochemically polymerized on a stainless steel wire in laboratory conditions in virtue of diminishing the cost and enhancing the analyte retention on its surface to exert better selectivity and hence the developed polymerized surface could offer to analyst to exploit it as a fiber in headspace SPME analysis. The parameters, mainly, adsorption temperature and time, desorption temperature, stirring rate and salt amount were optimized to be as 70°C and 45min, 200°C, 600rpm and 10gL(-1), respectively.

Carotenoid metabolism in mammals, including man: formation, occurrence, and function of apocarotenoids.

Vitamin A was recognized as an essential nutrient 100 years ago. In the 1930s, it became clear that dietary β-carotene was cleaved at its central double to yield vitamin A (retinal or β-apo-15'-carotenal). Thus a great deal of research has focused on the central cleavage of provitamin A carotenoids to form vitamin A (retinoids).

Minimally invasive kidney transplantation.

Minimally invasive kidney transplantation (MIKT) procedures, starting with lymphocele fenestration and continuing with laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, have been performed in recipients since 2006. From November 2011 to May 2012, we performed 86 consecutive renal transplantation with 43 conventional kidney transplantations (COKT) and 43 MIKTs using an apendectomy like, 4 to 5-cm incision. There were no significant differences between the groups according to age, sex, body mass index, donor type, surgical side, donor kidney or artery number.

Transvaginal laparoscopic donor nephrectomy.

Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN) has numerous advantages over open donor nephrectomy. The cosmetic issues and pain that arise due to the 5 to 6-cm incisions on the abdominal wall in LDN have led to transvaginal laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (TVLDN). Between May and August 2012, we performed seven donor nephrectomies via a transvaginal approach.

Paired exchange kidney transplantation experience of Turkey.

Objective: Paired-exchange kidney transplantation (PKD) has gained in importance because of the difficulty to obtain suitable organs. The aim of this study was to compare the biochemical and clinical parameters of PKT with those of living-related kidney transplantation (LD).

Method: We compared 272 PKD performed in 3 transplant centers with 1885 LD.

Voriconazole induced bradycardia.

Voriconazole is a triazole antifungal drug that is used to treat invasive fungal infections, especially aspergillus. Here, we report two children who had severe bradycardia associated with voriconazole at a dose of 12 mg/kg per day. Bradycardia resolved in 24 hours in both after decreasing the dose to 10 mg/kg per day.

P wave dispersion in juvenile idiopathic arthritis patients with diastolic dysfunction.

Objective: Cardiac involvement as pericarditis, myocarditis and valvular disease is common in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). However, there are few studies concerning systolic and diastolic functions of the left ventricle in children with JIA. P wave dispersion is a sign for the prediction of atrial fibrillation.

Misdiagnosed Chest Pain: Spontaneous Esophageal Rupture.

Unlabelled: Chest pain is one of themost common complaints expressed by patients presenting to the emergency department, and any initial evaluation should always consider life-threatening causes. Esophageal rupture is a serious condition with a highmortality rate. If diagnosed, successful therapy depends on the size of the rupture and the time elapsed between rupture and diagnosis.

A rare thymoma type presenting as a giant intrathoracic tumor: lipofibroadenoma.

Type B1 thymoma (lipofibroadenoma) is extremely rare. The tumor is characterized by an organoid appearance rich in lymphocytes with medullary differentiation and perivascular spaces. A twenty-three-year-old female patient was admitted to our clinic with complaints of chest pain and dyspnea for six months.

The formation, occurrence, and function of β-apocarotenoids: β-carotene metabolites that may modulate nuclear receptor signaling.

β-Carotene is the major dietary source of provitamin A. Central cleavage of β-carotene yields 2 molecules of retinal followed by further oxidation to retinoic acid. Eccentric cleavage of β-carotene occurs at double bonds other than the central double bond, and the products of these reactions are β-apocarotenals and β-apocarotenones.

Surgical treatment of mediastinal cysts: report on 29 cases.

Aim: Mediastinal cysts are rare, forming 12-18% of all primary mediastinal tumors. The purpose of this study is to evaluate type, clinical properties, treatment modalities, and results of mediastinal cystic neoplasm in the light of available literature.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively investigated 29 patients who were diagnosed and surgically treated for mediastinal cysts in our clinic between January 1996 and May 2011.

The effects of increased freshwater salinity in the biodisponibility of metals (Cr, Pb) and effects on antioxidant systems of Oreochromis niloticus.

Anthropogenic activities can increase the salinity of freshwaters and this may cause stress for fish and affect metal bioavailability. Oxidative stress biomarkers are of great interest due to their responses to environmental stressors which provide valuable data for biological monitoring of aquatic pollution. Thus, the individual and combined effects of salinity and metals (Cr, Pb) were investigated in the liver of freshwater fish Oreochromis niloticus in the present study.

Dyadic adjustment and psychological concordance of kidney transplant recipients and donors after spousal transplantation.

The aim of this study was to compare depression and anxiety levels of kidney transplant recipients and of their donor spouses seeking to show whether their dyadic adjustment levels related to their psychological states in the posttransplantation period. We selected 30 donor-recipient pairs who underwent spousal kidney transplantation. The study was performed while participants were in the hospital for routine examinations.
