Background: The study aimed to compare the analgesic efficacy of single-shot serratus anterior plane block (SAPB) for video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) with other regional block techniques.
Methods: In this meta-analysis, randomized controlled trials published in the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ClinicalKey, and PROSPERO electronic databases between March 24, 2014 and March 24, 2024 comparing the analgesic efficacy of SABP with other regional blocks in adult patients undergoing VATS were reviewed.
Results: Nine randomized controlled trials consisting of a total of 537 participants (287 males, 250 females; mean age: 55.
Background: The incidence of Hepatitis A is increasing worldwide. Yearly classification of Hepatitis A Seroprevalence for different times in different regions of Türkiye allows indirect measurement of year-specific incidence rates of HAV infection and can be considered the best way to define Hepatitis A status. This study aimed to examine the change in the incidence of hepatitis A by systematically evaluating the available data on the seroprevalence of anti-HAV antibodies in the Turkish population.

Carrots are one of the primary dietary sources of carotenoids. The biological activities of carotenoids in higher organisms, including their immunomodulatory activities, are well documented in most tissues but not the large intestine.

Objective: This study aims to compare the impact of 3 surgical techniques-stand-alone cage placement (SAC), anterior cervical plate (ACP) fixation, and total disc replacement (TDR)-on cervical lordosis restoration and segmental height after anterior cervical discectomy at C5-6 level. To eliminate the effect of lordosis between different levels, patients operated on at the same level were included in the study. Restoring cervical lordosis is crucial for improving patient outcomes, including pain reduction and preventing mechanical complications.

Objective: Bilateral pulmonary involvement is observed in around 14% of cases of pulmonary hydatid cysts and the treatment can be challenging. This study evaluates the clinical characteristics and treatment strategies used for cases of bilateral pulmonary hydatid cysts.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective examination was conducted on 107 consecutive cases of bilateral pulmonary hydatid cysts treated in our clinic between January 2003 and December 2023.
Argonaute (AGO), a component of RNA-induced silencing complexes (RISCs), is a representative RNA-binding protein (RBP) known to bind with mature microRNAs (miRNAs) and is directly involved in post-transcriptional gene silencing. However, despite the biological significance of miRNAs, the roles of other miRNA-binding proteins (miRBPs) remain unclear in the regulation of miRNA loading, dissociation from RISCs and extracellular release. In this study, we performed protein arrays to profile miRBPs and identify 118 RBPs that directly bind to miRNAs.

While appreciable insight has been gained into the mechanisms of obesity-associated comorbidities, effects of age, and duration of obesity on the female brain remain obscure. To address this gap, adolescent and mature adult female mice were subjected to a high-fat diet (HFD) for 13 or 26 weeks, whereas age-matched controls were fed a standard diet.

However, this method requires multimolar concentrations of cell-permeant cryoprotective agents (CPAs), which can be toxic at such elevated levels. The selection of CPAs for organ vitrification has been limited to a few chemicals; however, there are numerous chemicals with properties similar to commonly used CPAs.

Mediastinal cysts are usually congenital but present in adulthood. A pericardial cyst is usually localized in the right cardiophrenic region. Thymic cysts are less common and are located in the cervical region or anterior mediastinal region.

When combined with ambient mass spectrometry (MS), it can also serve as an electrospray ionization source. Therefore, it became a promising tool in analytical applications as it can significantly reduce the analysis time.

From the analytical chemist's perspective, the main challenges are isolating the compounds from the bio-specimen and lengthy analysis times. In this regard, solid phase microextraction offers a platform to address the abovementioned challenges.

We compared direct optical entry (DOE) with Veress needle entry (VNE) in terms of abdominal entry time and entry-associated complications in patients who underwent laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN).
Methods: Between June 2010 and July 2023, data from 813 patients who underwent LDN were analyzed.

Pulmonary sleeve resection is a complex lung resection and reconstruction surgery mostly performed in patients with centrally located locally invasive lung cancers which often penetrate into central airways and vasculature. This approach was initially used for patients unable to tolerate pneumonectomies, while it is currently also being preferred in patients whose tumors are anatomically suited. Today, thoracic sleeve resections include a wide range of procedures ranging from bronchial and tracheal sleeve resections to carinal sleeve pneumonectomies.

Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study between 1 January 2014 and 2 December 2022 in 212 intensive care units (ICUs) of 67 hospitals in 38 cities in nine Middle Eastern countries (Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the UAE). To estimate CAUTI incidence, we used the number of UC days as denominator and the number of CAUTIs as numerator.

Objectives: The aim of our study was to investigate facet tropism and its impact on the development of lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSCS) in patients with LSCS. MATERIALS AND METHODS Bilateral facet joint angles at the L3-4, L4-5, and L5-S1 levels were measured on axial plane in the lumbar magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of 82 patients aged between 32 and 75 with LSCS, and 82 healthy individuals aged between 30 and 66 without LSCS, who were considered as the normal group. RESULTS Both groups in our study consisted of both males and females.

Advances in multiplex histology allow surveying millions of cells, dozens of cell types, and up to thousands of phenotypes within the spatial context of tissue sections. This leads to a combinatorial challenge in (a) summarizing the cellular and phenotypic architecture of tissues and (b) identifying phenotypes with interesting spatial architecture. To address this, we combine ideas from community ecology and machine learning into niche-phenotype mapping (NIPMAP).
