The adipose tissue surrounding blood vessels is known as perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT), which represents a distinct ectopic fat depot that adheres to the majority of the vasculature. In recent years, owing to its unique location and function, PVAT has been regarded as a new type of adipose tissue distinct from traditional visceral fat. It releases adipokines with vasoconstrictive functions, which regulate vascular function through paracrine and endocrine mechanisms.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how Chinese adults in South China perceive their risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and the factors that influence these perceptions.
  • Conducted between March and July 2022 with 692 participants, the research identified three classes of CVD risk perception: low, moderate, and high, with notable characteristics linked to higher risk perception including age, diabetes, marital status, and self-reported health.
  • The findings showed that only about one-third of the participants accurately estimated their CVD risk, with a majority either overestimating or underestimating it, and these misestimations were associated with conditions like hypertension and drinking habits.

Hypertension and endothelial dysfunction are associated with various cardiovascular diseases. Hydrogen sulphide (H S) produced by cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE) promotes vascular relaxation and lowers hypertension. Honokiol (HNK), a natural compound in the Magnolia plant, has been shown to retain multifunctional properties such as anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether aerobic exercise training inhibits atherosclerosis via the reduction of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) expression in balloon-induced common carotid arteries of a high-fat-diet rats. Male SD (Sprague Dawley) rats fed an eight-weeks high-fat diet were randomly divided into three groups; these were the sham-operated control (SC), the balloon-induced control (BIC) and the balloon-induced exercise (BIE). The aerobic exercise training groups were performed on a treadmill.
