Background: In rural and remote Australia, cardiovascular mortality and morbidity rates are higher than metropolitan rates. This study analysed cardiovascular and other chronic disease risk factors and related health behaviours by occupational status, to determine whether agricultural workers have higher cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk than other rural workers.
Methods: Cross-sectional surveys in three rural regions of South Eastern Australia (2004-2006).
Objective: To model the impact of both population and high-risk strategies on cardiovascular disease (CVD) outcomes.
Design, Setting And Participants: A CVD risk-factor survey was carried out in rural south-eastern Australia from 2004 to 2006. Using a stratified random sample, data for 1116 participants aged 35-74 years were analysed.
Background: This study examined changes in adult daily smoking in 1981-2005 in Finland, in order to evaluate the impact of the 1995 Tobacco Control Act Amendment (TCAA) and accompanying measures on the proportion of daily smokers. The main focus of the TCAA was to prohibit smoking at workplaces (designated rooms excluded) in order to protect workers from environmental tobacco smoke.
Methods: The study was based on data from annual postal surveys among 15- to 64-year-olds in 1981-2005 (average response rate 73%).
Objective: To assess the trends in blood pressure (BP) levels and the control of hypertension in eastern and south-western Finland during 1982-2002.
Design: Five independent cross-sectional population surveys conducted in 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997 and 2002.
Setting: The provinces of North Karelia and Kuopio in eastern Finland and the region of Turku-Loimaa in south-western Finland.
